The 2024 ITF Summit on Greening Transport: Keeping Focus in Times of Crisis is on this week in Leipzig, Germany.

The annual Summit of the International Transport Forum is the world’s largest gathering of transport ministers and the premier global transport policy event.

Participants at the 2024 Summit will reflect on the transport sector’s role in environmental sustainability, and assess the impacts of climate, health and geopolitical crises in this context.

iRAP will be in action at the event where our key focusses will be on supporting member countries to eliminate high-risk roads, empowering transport safety insights through shared data, and financing equitable, green and safe road infrastructure world-wide and in Europe.

iRAP’s involvement will include:

Thursday 23 May:

  • James Bradford, iRAP’s Global Technical Director will present in the Safe System Implementation Tool session (CL – MPA 1 (Media Centre) from 2.15pm to 3.00pm

At this press event, Henk Stipdonk (Chair of the ITF Safe System Working Group) will explain the importance of the Safe System Approach and James Bradford will make a demonstration of the web-based Safe System tool.

  • Rob McInerney, iRAP’s CEO will present in the Rethinking Public Spaces for Safer, Greener and more Active Cities session (CCL – Hall 2) from 4.30pm to 6.00pm.

Session Details: Improving active mobility can translate into significant societal and economic gains, as it promotes physical activity and environmentally friendly and inclusive transport and cities. Yet, road safety is still a factor causing hesitancy among many citizens to embrace active modes. Emphasis on urban planning that considers pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users, and the appropriate infrastructure can lead to public spaces that offer comfort, safety, security, and inclusivity for all residents. This may ensure a better user perception and experience of these spaces, contributing to the overall well-being of our communities and the environment.
