The European Court of Auditors (ECA) has recently issued a report emphasizing the importance of the core trans-European transport network (TEN-T) of fast roads in terms of shorter travel times and more motorway mileage. “The EU core road network is making progress, but is not yet fully functional,” said Ladislav Balko, the ECA Member responsible for the report. The ECA calls for the European Commission to prioritise investment in the TEN-T Network, enhance monitoring arrangements by improving the quality of infrastructure in terms of safety, and strengthen its approach to ensure adequate maintenance of the growing network by Member State.
