We are delighted to announce that iRAP and our represented partners have received several International Safety Media Awards for 2022.
The International Safety Media Awards were officially presented on the last day of the 14th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Adelaide, South Australia in November 2022.
iRAP and its partners received awards in the following categories:
GOLD winner for web-based category – for the re-launch of the Road Safety Toolkit
Road Safety Toolkit (tooklit.irap.org)
Building on decades of road safety research, the Road Safety Toolkit provides a one-stop road safety resource for engineers, road safety advocates, students and policy makers to help develop safety plans for pedestrians, motorcyclists, bicyclists, car and heavy vehicle occupants and public transport users.
The update to the Road Safety Toolkit was funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies under their Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS 2020-2025) and was undertaken by the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF), with support from the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). The review included peer review and a road safety stakeholders survey to identify how the Road Safety Toolkit could continue to reflect the latest evidence and research in engineering safety. Global road safety leaders including the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), Towards Zero Foundation, Global NCAP, Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) and technical advisors provided invaluable support for the review.
Congratulations to all partners involved in this redevelopment of the freely available toolkit!
SILVER for web-based category – AVO Star Rating for Design Project Digital Story
Safety at heart of urban road design, Chile.
Designs for the Américo Vespucio Oriente I (AVO I) concession in Chile, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Latin America, were assessed using the iRAP Star Rating methodology prior to its commission in 2022.
iRAP’s produced digital story took readers on a virtual journey through the tunnels, overpasses and multi-lane carriageways beneath and across Santiago to see how engineering safety at the design stage can save lives, money and time.
SILVER for web-based category – 2021 Digital Annual Report
2021 Annual Report Showcases Partner Success
iRAP’s 2021 Digital Annual Report shared the activities and success of the charity and its 20,000 partners eliminating high-risk roads across the world during the year. The report aimed to provide a short, captivating image-rich summary of annual activities that took readers on a journey throughout the world and the communities we and our partners serve.
BRONZE for International Women in Engineering Day Campaign
Recognising #EngineeringHeroes and iRAP training grants for 20 women in Engineering
Our #RAPcommunity is made up of just over 20% females and we are keen to encourage women to contribute to save lives around the world on our roads.
In 2021, as part of the International Women in Engineering Day (Wednesday 23 June), we celebrated two initiatives from iRAP that would benefit and encourage women to be part of our #RAPcommunity, including:
- celebrating women making a difference in road safety as part of the International Women in Engineering Day campaign. https://irap.org/international-women-in-engineering-day-recognising-engineeringheroes-in-road-safety/
- selecting 20 women to take our Star Rating Essentials and Star Rating for Designs courses for free. https://irap.org/2021/08/congratulations-to-all-our-successful-candidates-for-irap-women-in-engineering-training-grants/
We had an overwhelming response to this campaign. With 193 applicants, we awarded 31 grants in 2021 and will continue to offer this opportunity every year.
We are very grateful for the extraordinary support of the FIA Foundation to make these opportunities possible.
HONORABLE MENTION in the Short Video category for Star Rating for Schools
KRSD Trust and Lea Primary School, Nigeria video
At the core of every iRAP programme is a partnership to save lives. Working together to eliminate high-risk roads will unlock the win-win benefits of safer roads, leading to reduced burden on families, communities, and the health system.
This moving video presented Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand Trust’s (KRSD Trust) work with school and community leaders, supported by iRAP Star Rating for Schools and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, to improve road safety for Lea Primary School students.
The Star Rating for Schools Programme has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Founding Sponsor FedEx, Major Donor FIA Foundation and Global Programme Partner 3M. For more information on SR4S, including to sign up for more programme news, visit https://www.starratingforschools.org/
Congratulations to our Communications Team Judy Williams and Briarlea Green and all the partners involved in making these media campaigns and platforms available around the world.
