iRAP’s second Coffee and Connect session brought together 80 RAP national programme leads from 38 countries to hear and learn from the 20 year success of the EuroRAP UK programme.

The EuroRAP UK Programme, led by the Road Safety Foundation (RSF), is a global leader and 20 year success story. As the earliest road assessment programme it helped lay the foundation for the methodology and resources of iRAP that now support work in more than 100 countries.

The UK programme continues to lead with assessment and performance tracking success. Every year, 54,000km of motorways and A roads are risk mapped and performance tracked with the support of Ageas Insurance UK. The collaborative programme engages key partners including road authorities, investment funds and insurers, engineering firms and technical innovators, research agencies, policy-makers, road safety NGOs and the community who travel the roads. Results are innovatively communicated, presented as simple and engaging tools to inform investment and drive advocacy. The target to achieve 90% of travel on the strategic road network at a 3-star or better safety standard by 2020 has been met and a new indicator will soon be set for the next decade. Results speak for themselves with upgraded roads a reality, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) £100 million Safer Roads Fund. The programme innovate in urban research, road design and tool enhancements.
