The 5th United Nations Global Road Safety was held from the 6 – 12 May this year. Across the world we saw the global community #SpeakUp and #DemandLeadership for #3StarorBetter.

Below is a snapshot from iRAP and our partners around the world spreading the word that it is time to speak up.

Australia

UN Global Road Safety Week began with the launch of Australian Road Safety Week in Brisbane. The Story Bridge shone bright in yellow commemorating Sarah Frazer and the 1,200 other Australians who lose their lives each year to road trauma.

Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group President Peter Frazer founded National Road Safety Week after his daughter Sarah was killed in a roadside crash in 2012, and launched this year’s Week together with the Governor-General of Australia. Read more here

At the end of the week, iRAP’s CEO Rob McInerney send out a heartfelt message to the road safety community for UN Global Road Safety Week, ‘Because together we can save so many lives’.

Rob has been meeting with iRAP’s existing and new partners around the world to share ideas and shape our combined plans to create a world free of high-risk roads.

We must continue to share these important messages – What can we do different, bigger and better to save lives and meet the 2030 global goals for road safety?

As we approach the end of the Decade of Action each one of us must ask those questions to ensure we maximise the lives we can save in the Decade to come.

Because every life counts.
