Participants from 54 countries tuned in last week for the 11th #RAPKnowledgeLive session – A key to safer roads.

In this session, participants learned how to use the Star Rating for Designs (SR4D) tool to assess and improve road safety by evaluating road designs and identifying high-risk areas, ensuring safer infrastructure for all road users.

New innovative enhancements to the SR4D web app provide a more powerful toolset for creating and editing road geometry streamlining the design process; new capability to import images and mapping files for precise geo-location; improved dataset management; and capability to submit datasets for quality assurance, further improving the integrity of road safety assessments in meeting the 3-star or better global standard and UN Target 3 for new roads.

Our SR4D experts, James Bradford, Global Technical Director, iRAP and Marko Sevrovic, Senior Road Safety Expert, European Institute of Road Assessment took the participants through:

  • A quick introduction to SR4D
  • An introduction to key iRAP tools for design:
    • Star Rating Demonstrator for rapid spot and cross-section assessments
    • Upcoming Star Rating Screening Tool for quick corridor assessments
    • Star Rating for Designs web app for detailed design assessments
  • A practical demonstration of the updated Star Rating for Designs web app
