The 2024 ITF Summit on Greening Transport: Keeping Focus in Times of Crisis took place last month in Leipzig, Germany.

It was the annual Summit of the International Transport Forum, serving as the world’s largest gathering of transport ministers and a premier global transport policy event.

Participants at the 2024 Summit reflected on the transport sector’s role in environmental sustainability, assessing the impacts of climate, health and geopolitical crises in that context.

iRAP was actively involved in the event, focusing on supporting member countries to eliminate high-risk roads, empowering transport safety insights through shared data, and financing equitable, green and safe road infrastructure worldwide and in Europe.

iRAP’s involvement included:

  • James Bradford, iRAP’s Global Technical Director, presented in the Safe System Implementation Tool media session
  • Rob McInerney, iRAP’s CEO, presented in the Rethinking Public Spaces for Safer, Greener and more Active Cities session
  • Celebrating 700,000 – media event to celebrate iRAP’s recent announcement that using the iRAP methodology, road safety infrastructure changes and safer speeds have prevented almost 700,000 deaths and serious injuries in 74 countries since 2016, according to a new paper with Johns Hopkins University published in the respected journal PLOS One.

Our continued participation with our partners in #ITF24 highlights iRAP’s commitment to improving road safety and creating sustainable transport systems.
