RAPIDO
To help accelerate safety assessments across networks and corridors, iRAP has developed RAPIDO that leverages the iRAP Star Rating methodology.
Building on the principles of the Star Rating Demonstrator, RAPDO enable users to create their own road stereotypes or choose from a library of road stereotypes, utilising them to represent homogeneous lengths of road. There by allowing for long lengths of road to be Star Rated swiftly and joined together to represent networks and road corridors.
RAPIDO for road networks is designed to help road network managers segment their road network to the point where road stereotypes can be developed. From this network wide assessments can be carried out with high-level Star Ratings and FSI estimates, thereby guiding them to where full Star Rating assessment should be carried out.
RAPIDO for road corridors is designed to help road designers carry out high level safety assessments while the road design is still in the concept phase. Enabling them to create road stereotypes for homogenous lengths of road from the concept design plans, before providing them with high-level Star Ratings and FSI estimations for the road design. RAPIDO can be used to assess road corridors in a number of ways, for example:
- Generating a Star Rating during the concept stage of designing road, where not all the road characteristics are defined
- Swiftly Star Rating an existing corridor to provide a baseline
- Carrying out high-level scenario testing on a road corridor
