Description

The Star Rating is an effective tool for communicating the level of safety which is ‘built-in’ to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians to the general public. however, separating roads segments into one of five levels leads to difficulties in distinguishing between roads with different Star Rating Scores (SRS) that fall into the same Star Rating band. This is particularly relevant for 1 Star sections of road.

To resolve this, it is proposed that a Decimal Star Rating be introduced to enable a greater level of resolution in the assessment of the level of safety built into a road section.

Status

The methodology for a Decimal Star Rating has been defined and is being tested within one of the Regional RAP.
