Factual has recently completed a second iRAP road safety assessment in Oman, analysing 50 km of the Oman LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) road network across three key locations in Sur and Muscat.
The project aims to enhance road safety on key itineraries near residential areas for all mobility modes (vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists) aiming at improving the connectivity to the main headquarters.
This initiative marks the second iRAP project in Oman, following an assessment of 1,500 km of the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) blacktop network developed by Factual in 2023. Together, these projects reflect growing national commitment to applying the internationally recognised iRAP methodology aimed at reducing road crashes through data-driven and preventive infrastructure improvements.
The latest assessment delivered positive star rating results, alongside a set of targeted recommendations and investment plans aimed at enhancing safety in specific areas of the network. By continuing to apply iRAP’s evidence-based approach, Oman is taking meaningful steps toward safer and more sustainable roads for all.
Marc Figuls, Managing Partner of Factual and iRAP Accredited Practitioner said, “Oman is making strong progress toward Vision Zero through comprehensive road safety assessments, not only for vehicle occupants but also for vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. In this interesting project, we are directly addressing the daily commuting safety of company employees, marking a significant step in workplace mobility and road risk management.”
Also, Malik AL Hadidi, Senior Security Officer, stated that: “This project marked a very important milestone toward excellence in road safety for Oman LNG employees around the company’s three main locations. It has provided quantified data and evidence-based recommendations for targeted interventions to enhance safety in these priority areas.”
