As 2024 draws to a close, I’m incredibly proud to reflect on a year of significant progress in our mission to create a world free of high-risk roads.
This year has seen iRAP and our partners achieve remarkable results across the globe. From the award-winning projects AI&Me and in the Shaanxi Demonstration Project, where road improvements have dramatically reduced deaths and injuries, to the ground breaking Johns Hopkins report revealing road safety infrastructure changes and safer speeds have prevented almost 700,000 deaths and serious injuries in 74 countries since 2016, the impact of our work with partners around the world is clear.
We’ve launched vital initiatives like MexiRAP and the first state-based BrazilRAP São Paulo to eliminate high-risk roads.
With our partners we’ve been actively implementing and supporting projects around the world, such as the Safe and Inclusive Road Design project in Central Asia, project PHOEBE in Europe, Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Latin America, and Ai-RAP projects in Australia.
The #SaferRoadsPledge campaign has galvanized support from 60 countries for safer roads and mobility, while new data insights and our enhanced Star Rating for Designs tool are empowering evidence-based improvements.
We’ve also focused on future generations, with the evolution of our Youth Engagement App and continued advancements in Star Rating for Schools.
From successful events like our Special Sessions at the IRF World Congress, and Regional Event Series bringing RAP partners together in Brussels, Mexico and Nairobi, to our preparations for the upcoming 4th Global Ministerial Conference in Marrakech, 2024 has been a year of action, collaboration, and tangible progress towards safer roads for everyone.
We look forward to working together with you to build on this momentum in the New Year ahead.
