We are thrilled to welcome Edgar Zamora to the iRAP team in his new role as the Safer Journeys Regional Leader for The Americas.
Across Latin America, the Caribbean and North America an estimated 150,000 people are killed and over 4,000,000 suffer life-changing injuries in road crashes every year.
In this new role, Edgar will be responsible for supporting our partners in Latin America, the Caribbean and North America to achieve our common goal of ensuring that every journey on a road is safe for everyone.
Edgar brings more than a decade of experience working with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) where, among other things, he had a focus on road safety. He is passionate about the impact that safe roads can have on people’s lives.
On his appointment as the new Safer Journeys Regional Leader, Edgar said ‘Transportation is an essential activity for the economy and development, but it can have serious negative impacts as well. Joining iRAP means for me to be part of a great global effort to improve the lives of many people by making transportation systems safer and more inclusive. I start this new challenge with a lot of enthusiasm and energy, convinced that iRAP contributes strongly to the goals of a new Decade of Action on Road Safety.’
A Civil Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Project Management under PMI Standards, Edgar also has extensive experience as a Transport Specialist for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and co-leading the IBD’s Road Safety Strategic Area.
In the past 12 years as Regional Director for the Americas, Julio Urzua has led the growth of so many successful partnerships and programme activities in the region, and Edgar now has the job of building on this as Julio steps fully into the role of Global Director, Strategic Projects.
Edgar is based in Costa Rica.
iRAP warmly welcomes Edgar to our team!
