Last week in Beijing, iRAP signed on as co-chair of the Road Safety Committee for the Belt and Road Transport Alliance.
The Belt and Road Initiative provides a unique opportunity to save lives with 3starorbetter roads. Major road investments are planned across the world as part of the ambitious China partnership to improve regional connectivity, trade and growth. As a Board Member of the Belt and Road International Transport Alliance (BRITA) the International Road Assessment Programme is working with Tongji University to ensure improved road safety is one of the major outcomes of the global investment that will reach 65% of the world’s population.
iRAP’s Managing Director – Strategic Projects Greg Smith was in Beijing to help shape the initiative. The Chinese Ministry of Transport Research Institute of Highways already leads the ChinaRAP programme and helps implement the multi-billion investment in the State Council endorsed “Highway Safety to Cherish Life” programme (the best name for a Safer Roads Fund we have seen!!!).
