Do you want to play a key role in stopping deaths and serious injuries on the road in your country or state?

If so, a new resource from the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) could be your springboard to success!

‘Developing a Locally Owned and Led National or State iRAP Programme Brochure’ provides a step-by-step guide to building a road assessment programme (RAP) that supports life-saving targeted road infrastructure improvements. RAP programmes are now active in more than 80 countries worldwide and are essential tools in the campaign to reduce road deaths and serious injuries.

iRAP has already assessed more than 1,000,000km of roads worldwide and influenced over US$50 billion of road investment. Its charitable work is supported by global funders including the FIA Foundation and the Road Safety Fund. The new brochure explains how you can:

  • Build an effective RAP team with defined roles such as programme, technical governance, road upgrade, and stakeholder communication leads
  • Define star rating targets that can be used to influence investment in life-saving road improvements to existing roads and building safe new roads
  •  Establish a Safer Roads Fund to mobilise large-scale targeted investment in safer roads
  • It also outlines the typical steps in establishing a national or state programme

The brochure can be used in conjunction with our iRAP key facts business cards for wallets which provide an excellent ‘elevator pitch’ for road safety advocates.

iRAP CEO Rob McInerney said: ‘The brochure is aimed at governments, state officials, transport professionals and health and policy professionals who want to tackle the epidemic of death and serious injuries on the world’s roads.

‘More than 3,500 people are killed and 100,000 killed on the world’s roads each day. So many of those precious lives could be saved by making road infrastructure safer.’
