We have updated the CycleRAP Demonstrator and released a refreshed suite of supporting materials to assist practitioners in applying the model to cycling infrastructure.

Model Update: Line-of-Sight Integration

The CycleRAP model now incorporates sight distance (line-of-sight) considerations. This update allows for a more accurate risk estimation in areas where visibility may be obstructed by vegetation, walls, fences, or other roadside elements.

By accounting for these visual barriers, the model better reflects real-world conditions at:

  • Intersections and path crossings.

  • Property entrances and driveways.

  • Potential conflict points between cyclists, vehicles, and pedestrians.

Updated Supporting Material

To support these technical changes and assist with scaling assessments, several resources have been updated or introduced:

  • CycleRAP User Guide: Now includes new guidance on training attribute detection models to support AI-assisted data collection.

  • Methodological Factsheet: Updated to reflect the latest model logic and safety parameters.

  • CycleRAP Flows Explainer: A new resource designed to help practitioners understand and apply flow data within the model.

These updates are designed to streamline the data collection process and ensure CycleRAP remains a practical tool for a Safe System approach to infrastructure safety.
