Mark your diaries and join us for the Final Conference of PHOEBE on 23 June in Naples to hear the project’s results in advancing the safety of vulnerable road users and safer, smarter and greener active mobility in three European cities.

The 3.5 year EU-funded ‘Predictive Approaches for Safer Urban Environment’ (PHOEBE) Project, has been piloting in Athens (Greece), West Midlands (UK) and Valencia (Spain), and is building on the strengths of iRAP’s road safety assessment tools and AIMSUN’s simulation and Artificial Intelligence to deliver harmonised, integrated and world-leading safety prediction tools that take account of gender, age and ability levels in providing for future mobility.

Overview of the Final Conference

The Final Conference will be held from 1.30 – 4.30pm as part of the 10th International Road Safety & Simulation Conference (RSS2026) in Naples, Italy. Results will be shared through an interactive workshop format introducing the innovative PHOEBE framework which has been developed to support cities in forecasting and improving urban road safety through the integration of state-of-the-art safety assessment tools. Key findings from pilot implementations and simulation activities conducted in the pilot cities – Athens, Valencia, and the West Midlands – will be presented.

The presentations will also showcase the interactive tools developed within the PHOEBE project. These demonstrations will illustrate how the framework enhances micro-simulation capabilities to provide predictive insights into safety impacts for vulnerable road users, supports safety-oriented decision-making, and delivers evidence-based recommendations and tools that can be adopted by other European cities for strategic planning and policy-making.

What Results Will Be Shared?

A comprehensive overview of the project’s methodological pillars will be provided, with particular emphasis on:

  • Microsimulation tools
  • Road safety assessment
  • Road user behavioural modelling
  • Socio-economic analyses

These components are further enhanced through the use of driver telematics data and advanced machine learning applications, with a focus on their interconnections and integrated applications.

*Please note that registration for the RSS2026 Conference is required to attend this workshop.
