We are delighted to announce that iRAP and our represented partners have received several International Safety Media Awards (ISMA) for 2024.

The International Safety Media Awards were officially presented on the last day of the 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in New Delhi, India (September 2024).

iRAP and its partners received awards in the following categories:

SILVER for online/web-based category – for the Interactive reports: Empowering road safety through data analysis

In 2023, iRAP published a new Interactive Reports webpage to illustrate examples of cool data analytics that have been produced using iRAP and related data to communicate project results, the critical need to eliminate high-risk roads, and progress to safer infrastructure and built capacity.

Data analytics can be immensely powerful for examining large amounts of data to uncover hidden insights and, by presenting them in clever graphical ways, make the findings much easier to grasp with immediacy and impact. Furthermore, with the benefit of software such as Power BI, linkages can be made between data sets for cross-fertilisation of knowledge.

iRAP and its partners have produced a range of reports that demonstrate the power of this reporting and its potential to inform advocacy, policy-making, investment and action.

SILVER for online/web-based category iRAP Partner Portal launches: Connecting people and possibilities

iRAP’s free Partner Portal shares valuable road safety data, resources, and the latest on safer roads progress being achieved through application of the iRAP methodology and tools. Sharing results worldwide and per country, it is empowering and connecting road safety stakeholders and Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs) working to save lives and reduce serious injuries from road crashes.

The iRAP Partner Portal shares information on progress metrics, news, knowledge (reports, maps, road safety resources, etc), training and projects occurring in countries and globally, along with valuable road safety statistics on the human and economic impact of road crashes, how safe our roads are, and the Business Case for Safer Roads of achieving the majority of travel on 3-star or better roads by 2030 (Target 4). The Portal enables partners to connect with RAP leads in countries, and contribute information to develop their own national profile, for the mutual benefit of all.

The Portal, and underlying Partner Management System iRAP Connect, are the result of the 5-Star Global Connections Initiative funded by FedEx, with additional core support of the FIA Foundation. Following its successful pilot, the Portal is now freely accessible to anyone in the world.

iRAP and the Australian Transport Accident Commission (TAC) partnered in 2022 to produce a “Road to Zero through the Safe System Approach” exhibit and now offers it for partners to use world-wide.

Launched at Safety 2022: the 14th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Adelaide, the exhibit features a 6m x 2.8m graphics wall showcasing the necessary safe system elements to achieve zero road deaths – 5-star road users in 5-star vehicles on 5-star roads, travelling at safe speeds. Download a close up view of the exhibit wall here.

It also can feature an animation video presenting the Role of Safe Roads in the Safe System.

FINALIST in the Low Budget Campaign for iRAP’s Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy Award

In 2023, iRAP and the global transport community lost a friend, a mentor and a leader. Gary Liddle AO was a remarkable person, with a truly authentic style of leadership that was admired by all in the road industry. His passing from MND on the 22nd February 2023 was a sad day for all including the iRAP family and friends worldwide.
Gary volunteered his time and wisdom as the Chair of iRAP from 2017-2022 and as a Trustee for 9 years.

Given his lifelong contribution to the public-sector and transport, iRAP now honours Gary’s legacy with the Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy awarded annually.  With iRAP’s vision for a world free of high-risk roads, the Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy is awarded to the public agency making great progress towards that life-saving vision.

It was presented for the first time at the XXVIth PIARC World Roads Congress in Prague last year, awarded to Brazil’s National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), along with three other finalists – Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Croatian Roads Ltd.
