Road Safety needs us all! iRAP started the Women in Engineering Grants first in 2021 and continues the offer again in 2024 to 30 successful applicants.

These grants give these successful applicants the opportunity to take our Star Rating Essentials and Star Rating for Designs courses– absolutely free! This valuable training equips you with the skills to design safer roads and save lives worldwide.

We are incredibly proud to announce that this year’s 30 iRAP International Women in Engineering Day Grant recipients are from 23 countries, including Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Australia, Rwanda, Argentina, Mexico, Ethiopia, Uruguay, Algeria, Cameroon, Philippines, Italy, Fiji, Panama, India, Belgium, Brazil, Bhutan, Poland, Indonesia, Uganda and Lebanon.

Some of the highlights nominated by the successful recipients on how they intend to use their knowledge include:

  • I plan to utilize the skills that I gain to ensure road designs factor in safety concerns before the designs are implemented.
  • Learning about these Star Rating for Design tools will empower my ability as a road design engineer to effectively analyze and assess the road safety aspect of a design as well as improve its safety star rating before implementation of the construction works.
  • I am currently working on road safety manual preparation for the city of Addis Ababa. I would like to incorporate the iRAP methods of road safety rating in to the manual to impact feature road safety plans and developments.
  • Driven by a passion for improving road safety in Algeria, I’m pursuing a PhD in the field. iRAP methodologies have emerged as a powerful tool, and I’m committed to mastering it. Through in-depth iRAP expertise, I aim to diagnose potential risks on our roads and propose impactful interventions.

Below is a list of all our 2024 successful recipients.

We would like to thank all 131 applicants for their interest. The number of applications received demonstrates that there are more women ready and willing to work on road safety assessment and we look forward to supporting their growth in our #RAPCommunity. We are very grateful for the extraordinary support of the FIA Foundation to make these opportunities possible.
