iRAP CEO Rob McInerney was pleased to join the ITE Talks Transportation Podcast last week to discuss Improving Global Roadway Safety with the Safe System Approach.

The timing was opportune as world leaders prepare for this week’s UN High-level Meeting on Road Safety to be held 30 June to 1 July in New York, with a Safe System focus to secure a Decade of Action and Delivery.

The podcast shares Rob’s views on global roadway safety through the Safe System Approach, Vision Zero, and how those integrate into the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. He also highlights rural roadway safety, where a large portion of global fatalities are concentrated in run-off-the-road crashes, and discusses mobilizing positive change by designing roads for outcomes, versus standards, to bring deaths and serious injuries down to zero.

Through its podcast series, the Institute of Transportation Engineers delivers conversations with thought leaders in transportation on the future of the industry on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
