In recent years, the AAA has conducted a successful effort to encourage jurisdictions to improve transparency and use of AusRAP data. Star Rating policy targets are in place in 15 national and state road safety strategies and action plans including the Australian Government Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot Programme Guidelines helping to inform the safety of billions of dollars of road upgrade investment, and the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) Policy Position Statement on Infrastructure Star Rating. An iRAP Star Rating assessment of 54,500 km was completed in 2022. BrazilRAP programme activity has assessed 133,315km of roads and designs and 46 schools, influencing the safety of US$14 billion of life-saving infrastructure investment across the country. With a planned investment of BRL 18 billion, the BrazilRAP project aims to halve the number of fatalities and serious injuries on the national network. In 2025, iRAP joined in a call at the Brazil Grand Prix with Automotive Association of Brazil (AAB), FIA, FIA Foundation and Brazilian F1 star Gabriel Bortolet for strong commitment for safe school journeys. supported also by Brazilian F1 star Gabriel Bortoleto. Star Ratings targets and optimised investment have been included in significant concession projects across the country that are a leading example of innovative results-based financing and PPPs for road safety. The State of Parana’s 2030 Strategy requires all concessions to achieve a minimum 3-star safety rating. DNIT was awarded an iRAP 5-Star Performer Award in 2022, and the Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy in 2023 for BrazilRAP. BrazilRAP São Paulo launched in 2024, as the first state-based iRAP programme in the world. Nearly 50,000 km of roads have been Star Rated, informing significant progress on strategic road networks in England and Wales and underpinning the Department for Transport’s award-winning £200 million Safer Roads Fund, delivered in partnership with United Kingdom RAP lead organisation, the Road Safety Foundation (RSF). These Safer Roads Fund schemes are projected to prevent 2,700 deaths and serious injuries over 20 years. RSF also works closely with National Highways and the Welsh Government. National Highways undertakes a comprehensive iRAP Star Rating programme every five years, and results published in 2022 showed 96 per cent of travel occurs on 3-star or better roads. National Highways is using the iRAP methodology to support strategic investment planning, prioritise routes for safety upgrades, and ensure that new road designs achieve the highest possible safety standards. RSF’s annual crash risk mapping analysis of 50,000 km identifies a £2.5 billion investment opportunity across strategic and local A roads in England, Scotland, and Wales. It is estimated this investment would prevent over 17,000 deaths and serious injuries over a 20-year period. These findings have the potential to make a significant contribution to the newly launched national road safety strategy. Star Rating targets have been set in place in Vietnam’s National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030 which calls for all new roads to be 3-star or better and 70% of total national highway length to reach 3-stars or better. An innovative Ai&Me project, funded by Fondation Botnar leveraged the power of Artificial Intelligence, big data and community engagement, to launch the YEA safety app for students and identify and improve high-risk school locations in three cities. The project received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2024. An Empowering Youth for Liveable Cities (Ai&Me2) project is extending impact, with app refinements and scalability testing in Vietnam and Indonesia. Taking the benefits nationally, an innovative AiRAP project, supported by a US$2 million Google.org grant, is expanding AI&Me’s Big Data Methodology country-wide to identify the highest-risk schools in Vietnam and enable strategic upgrades, supported by YEA.
