On Sunday 20 November, World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2022 (WDoR22) will put the spotlight on JUSTICE.
Traffic law enforcement, thorough investigation after a crash to find out if a crime was committed and to prevent recurrence, criminal prosecution where appropriate and civil compensation are all part of the justice system. When carried out seriously, fairly and consistently, such a system is what road crash victims who have been injured or had a family member killed as the result of someone’s law–breaking or negligence deserve and wish for, since it also represents a main factor of prevention and this would mean that lessons are learnt from their tragedies so that they may not be repeated.
We encourage iRAP partners to support this annual commemorative event; to remember the innocent lives lost, support the global call to end preventable road traffic crashes and share your action to save lives.

As every year, the objectives of WDoR 2022 are to provide a platform for road traffic victims and their families to:
- remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads;
- acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services;
- draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries and advocate for an appropriately serious response;
- advocate for better support for road traffic victims and victim families;
- promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries.
As we have entered the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims will continue to play an important part in highlighting the very reason for all the necessary actions outlined in the Globaal Plan.

- New resources for 5-star RAPs – An online package of new Bronnen voor 5-sterren RAP's, funded by FedEx, has launched to support road assessment programmes around the world eliminate high-risk roads and save lives.
- RAP Tools menu – iRAP and its partners have developed a suite of tools that use the iRAP-methodologie to support infrastructure safety management globally and locally.
- New and improved Road Safety Toolkit – Building on decades of road safety research, the Toolkit is freely available and provides a one-stop road safety resource to help develop safety plans for pedestrians, motorcyclists, bicyclists, car and heavy vehicle occupants and public transport users on the causes and prevention of road crashes.
- Overview Summary of Countries’ Progress – this summary shares national safer roads activity for 160 countries and the human and economic benefit of achieving UN Targets 3 and 4 by 2030. A supporting web-based table can be filtered to a country, key word or multiple countries based on income level or global region.
