Als de Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) convenes in Macau this week for its Annual Conference, we recognise the 140 FIA clubs in 99 countries partnering with iRAP to support their advocacy and action to create safer journeys for members supported by the iRAP Methodology and tools.
This year’s conference is welcoming over 500 senior FIA delegates across mobility and motorsport from 149 countries, offering the opportunity to address key initiatives in road safety, sustainable mobility, regional sporting growth, and innovation in transport.

FIA Clubs, supported by the FIA Mobility Grants Programme, are advancing safe, clean, inclusive, and smart mobility, with CycleRAP, de App voor jongerenparticipatie (YEA) En Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) valuable free tools to support their projects.
Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for young people from the ages of five to 29, and FIA mobility clubs are working with iRAP in local partnerships to deliver the Star Rating for Schools programme for safer school journeys.

The Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) received two awards in 2024 for its contribution to road safety – a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award and Vision Zero for Youth Award. This follows the Club’s 2023 FIA President’s Award for its Safer School Zone campaign that drove infrastructure improvements and school zone policy changes including 30km/h limits.

A number of clubs have large SR4S assessment programs underway, informing lifesaving road upgrades to protect vulnerable youth. For example, the Armenian Automobile Federation (FAA), ACM Moldova, Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA), EA991 Botswana, de National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan En Automovil Club de Chile have assessed 40, 24, 21, 19, 14 and 13 schools respectively with important recent outcomes. In Nepal, NASA’s SR4S assessments have results in upgrades in 18 of the 21 assessed schools.
AA Kenya played a valuable role helping to build road safety capacity in Africa last October where two interactive Safer School Journey Walkshops, held in conjunction with the Africa Regional Road Safety Seminar, empowered participants to enhance road safety through hands-on learning and data-driven approaches.

In Australia, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), supported by State Clubs, have been driving road safety advocacy benchmarking the National Road Safety Strategy, En calling for the transparent use of AusRAP road ratings to increase transparency and evidence-based decision-making in road safety investment. In addition, the Federal and State Government has committed AUD$9 billion to fast track upgrades on Queensland’s main Bruce Highway na de langdurige inspanningen van de Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ).

Automovil Club Del Ecuador (ANETA), Automovil Club De Costa Rica (ACCR), Automóvil Club del Uruguay, Automovel Clube Brasileiro (ACB), and Jamaica Automobile Association (JAA) are working on an important innovation mapping partnership with iRAP.
The Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) has been a key partner in iRAP’s innovative CycleRAP development for safer journeys for cyclists and light mobility users. CycleRAP received the 2025 European Cyclists’ Federation Road Safety Award in Poland this week.
The safety of over 140km of cycling infrastructure has been assessed in Skopje, North Macedonia in partnership with the Auto Moto Association of Macedonia (AMSM), the Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Slovenia (AMZS) will undertake assessments this year, and several cycle lanes were assessed in Lisbon last year in partnership with the Automovel Club de Portugal, with potential scalability to other Portuguese cities.
A pivotal meeting to launch a Road Safety Audits Training initiative was held in March in Zimbabwe. The initiative, funded by the FIA Foundation through the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grant Program, and awarded to the Automobile Association of Zimbabwe (AAZ), aims to enhance road safety and promote sustainable mobility across the country focused on strategies to improve road infrastructure design and reduce traffic collisions.
Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and the National Automobile Club of Tunisia have previously completed large Crash Risk Mapping assessments of 17.500 km En 14.800 km respectievelijk om inzicht te krijgen in de investeringen en de snelheid waarmee levens en ernstig letsel in hun landen kunnen worden gered.
