ThaiRAP has been awarded a prestigious Prime Minister’s National Award for its outstanding efforts and commitment to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Thailand’s roads.
The award was presented yesterday by the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayuth Chan-ocha during the 15th National Road Safety Seminar.
To date, ThaiRAP and its partners have Star Rated 50,000km of roads, designs and school zones.
More than 1,500 people have benefited from iRAP training delivered locally and nearly 200 have participated in global online events helping to build the capacity of local road safety professionals to make roads safer.
Thailand’s New Roads Policy aims for all new roads to achieve the global 3-star or better target standard to protect the lives of all road users and reduce injury.
El Departamento de Carreteras Rurales de Tailandia (DRR) has been awarded, 2 years running, the International Road Federation (IRF) Global Achievement Award in the Safety Category for its Integrated Road Safety Management System.
El Sistema de Auditoría de Seguridad Vial (RSAS) de DRR, avalado por iRAP, ha analizado las puntuaciones de riesgo de los tramos de carreteras rurales de su red vial de 47.303 km basándose en la metodología de clasificación por estrellas de iRAP.
Within two years, the project achieved:
- Se han investigado y tratado 1.309 puntos de riesgo.
- Los fallos se han reducido en 71%, pasando de 1.309 a 1.021 fallos.
- Las muertes se han reducido en 75% de 52 a 13 muertes.
- Se ha logrado una relación beneficio-costo estimada de 3,9 con un costo estimado de mejoras de $3,0 millones y beneficios derivados de las vidas salvadas gracias a las mejoras de $11,8 millones, un beneficio equivalente a casi 4 veces la inversión en mejoras.

As a Centro de Excelencia, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University is focussed on building local capacity for high quality risk mapping, star rating and safer road investment planning assessments across the country. The university is working in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Department of Highways, Department of Rural Roads, Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the University and other key stakeholders to implement the Plan mundial para el Decenio de Acción para la Seguridad Vial 2021-2030 and develop ThaiRAP to eliminate high-risk roads.
De acuerdo a Herramienta de macrodatos de iRAP para vacunas en carreteras, achieving greater than 75% of travel on 3-star or better roads for all road users in Thailand by 2030 stands to save over 1.6 million lives and serious injuries per year with an economic benefit of USD$201 billion – $34 of benefit for every $1 spent.
