iRAP anuncia los ganadores del Trofeo Conmemorativo Gary Liddle 2024

iRAP has proudly announced the winner and finalists for the 2024 iRAP Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy in Marrakech today, presented to the world’s best performing road authority eliminating high-risk roads.

Gary Liddle AO quién falleció en 2023.

The winners were selected from 12 highly competitive nominations from 11 countries.

Agencia Nacional de Carreteras de Tanzania (TANROADS) took out the prestigious gong as this year’s Winner. Tanzania was the first country in the world to apply the innovative Plan de Diez Pasos para Infraestructura Vial Más Segura with TANROADS successfully achieving reductions in road trauma associated with their elimination of high-risk journeys for all road users across the country.  TANROADS’ Ten Step Plan Initiative has also built sustainable institutional capacity, impact, and partnerships that continue to identify and eliminate high-risk roads across Tanzania, where it is estimated road crashes claim more than 16,000 people each year.

The recipients of the 2024 Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy are:

iRAP Global Program Director and Acting CEO Greg Smith said, “It is a privilege to honour Gary Liddle’s legacy today and celebrate the lifesaving work of road authorities worldwide in making roads safer and communities more liveable through the innovative application of the iRAP methodology and tools.

“The calibre of nominations this year was very high, with TANROADS a standout for its widescale application of the iRAP approach, large scale of mobilised investment focused on all road users, and rapid scaling of partnerships and capacity to save lives. TANROADS’ program demonstrates the innovative world-first implementation of the multi-partner collaborative Ten Step Plan for Safer Road Infrastructure approach. Its effectiveness and transferability is evident today in TANROADS’ achievement and demand for the approach from other countries in the region.”

Aceptando el premio en nombre de TANROADS, Su Excelencia Hon. Abdallah Hamis Ulega, Ministro de Obras en Tanzania afirmó: “Estamos muy orgullosos de recibir el Trofeo Conmemorativo Gary Liddle de iRAP en reconocimiento a la labor de TANROADS para impulsar mejoras en la capacidad, las políticas y las infraestructuras de seguridad vial, con el fin de reducir la carga que suponen las lesiones por accidentes de tráfico en nuestro país. Tanzania fue el primer país del mundo en aplicar el (UNRSC) para una infraestructura vial más segura, lo que ha potenciado y acelerado las mejoras en materia de seguridad vial en nuestro país, situándonos en una buena posición para reducir a la mitad el número de fallecidos y heridos en accidentes de tráfico a nivel mundial en el país para 2030, en consonancia con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas.

iRAP Metodología de calificación con estrellas provides a simple and objective measure of the level of safety that is ‘built-in’ to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Impressed with the high calibre of nominations, the judging panel opted to also award Shining Star Trophies to the Himachal Pradesh Roads Infrastructure Development Corporation India and Roads General Authority of Saudi Arabia, and Rising Star Trophies to the Municipality of Lima and Main Roads Western Australia, each showing impressive road safety leadership in different ways.
