We are celebrating the 140 FIA clubs in 99 countries that are using the iRAP Methodology and tools to support their advocacy and action to create safer journeys. From supporting road safety assessments and implementing the Star Rating for Schools programme, to developing free tools and resources for club members, driving advocacy and improved policy, and rolling out innovative funding programmes for safer roads and school zones, FIA partnerships are critical to ensuring high-risk roads are actioned and eliminated in local communities spanning the globe.

Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for young people from the ages of five to 29, and FIA mobility clubs are working with iRAP in local partnerships to deliver the SR4S programme for safer school journeys.
Thirty-four (34) clubs have embraced the programme supported by the Kit de herramientas de evaluación escolar de la FIA and annual FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grants Programme, supported by the FIA Foundation. Assessments have been conducted at 303 schools, supporting evidence-based upgrades at 112 schools. The programme has supported clubs to improve the safety of school zones in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Ecuador, Georgia, Greece, Guatemala, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) received two awards in 2024 for its contribution to road safety – a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award and Vision Zero for Youth Award. This follows the Club’s 2023 FIA President’s Award for its Safer School Zone campaign that drove infrastructure improvements and school zone policy changes including 30km/h limits.

The initiative, funded by the FIA Foundation through the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grant Program, and awarded to the Automobile Association of Zimbabwe (AAZ), aims to enhance road safety and promote sustainable mobility across the country focused on strategies to improve road infrastructure design and reduce traffic collisions.

FIA clubs have often been pivotal in establishing awareness of the iRAP programme in countries, and this has often led to Star Ratings informing large infrastructure investments.
iRAP is actively working with the FIA, FIA Region I, II and IV to build capacity and projects to support safer journeys in the regions. As just one recent example, iRAP’s Safer Journeys Lead for the Americas Edgar Zamora was honoured to mentor three teams this year working to advance road safety in Bolivia, Ecuador and Honduras as part of the FIA Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life Initiative.

El Federación Internacional del Automóvil (FIA) General Assemblies will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 9-12 December. As an FIA Member, we look forward to joining the event to report on our partners’ work in 135 countries. Attended by all the FIA Member Clubs, the General Assembly congregates once a year to plan the future course of the Federation.
