This week, the International Transport Forum is drawing Ministers together from 63 countries to advance road safety and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety is encouraging all to #CommitToAct. In recognition, we’re celebrating the growing list of countries setting 3-star or better target commitments in their national and regional road safety strategies, road infrastructure projects and funding schemes.
We’re gathering 3-star or better policy commitments and sharing them with partners as examples all countries can emulate.

In addition, a number of development banks – World Bank, Millennium Challenge Corporation, Inter-American Development Bank, European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank and Africa Infrastructure Investment Bank – are ensuring the safety of their investments by including 3-star or better targets in their project lending.
Safe road infrastructure is a key focus of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, as are UN Targets 3 and 4 which include ensuring all new roads are built to a 3-star or better standard for all road users (Target 3), and more than 75% of travel is on the equivalent of 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 (Target 4).
iRAP is supporting partners and governments as they draw on the Global Plan to develop and implement national and local strategies such as these.

On 30 June and 1 July, leaders from across the globe will gather at the United Nations in New York for the first ever High-level Meeting on Road Safety. iRAP is calling on every country to actively participate, share successes such as these and commit to implement the Global Plan to save lives and serious injuries.
The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety is also mapping road safety commitments around the world – 63 so far, 4 in planning, 34 in progress and 22 completed. We’re supporting their campaign, calling on governments to commit to act for people’s right to safe mobility and a 50% reduction in road deaths and injuries this decade.
