ViDA is iRAP’s free-to-air online platform. It is the data processing engine for Star Ratings, FSI Estimates and Investment Plans, hosting data and analysing results, and the portal for iRAP’s tools listed below.
iRAP’s methodology and specification manuals are fundamentally linked with the tools available in ViDA, which serves as the central data processing engine and online platform for all iRAP’s tools. The methodology measures road safety based on over 50 road attributes and underpins key outputs like Star Ratings, Fatal and Serious Injury (FSI) Estimates, and Investment Plans. This integrated approach ensures that practitioners can use the guidance in the manuals to understand the methodology, and then utilize the tools in ViDA to objectively measure and improve road safety, ultimately making designs safer and more impactful.

Star Ratings
ViDA’s Star Ratings measures road safety infrastructure for all users based on road attributes.
Star Ratings objectively measure the level of safety built into a road for all users, based on more than 50 road attributes. The ratings range from 1-Star (highest risk) to 5-Star (lowest risk) and can be produced without detailed crash data. They are used for road safety inspections, impact assessments, and in designs.
Fatal and Serious Injury (FSI) Estimates
ViDA’s FSI Estimates predict fatalities and serious injuries using road attribute data and traffic flow.
FSI Estimates use road attribute data and traffic flow to predict the number of fatalities and serious injuries on a road segment, helping to prioritize investment. When used with designs, they are an effective way to compare solutions and understand the safety implications of design decisions.
Safer Roads Investment Plans
ViDA’s SRIP identifies cost-effective upgrades to prevent deaths and injuries.
Investment Plans use Star Ratings and FSI Estimates to identify the most cost-effective road upgrades that will prevent deaths and serious injuries. They provide an optimized business case for investment, helping planners and engineers make informed decisions on both existing roads and new designs.
Route Review Tool (RRT)
ViDA’s RRT is web tool for engineers to work with iRAP results.
The RRT is a web tool for road safety engineers to easily work with iRAP results. It allows users to check investment plans, suggest changes to road safety countermeasures, and estimate the impact on Star Ratings and injuries
Star Rating Demonstrator
ViDA’s Star Rating Demonstrator is a teaching tool to instantly test road attribute changes.
This is a quick and valuable teaching tool for producing Star Ratings for individual locations. It allows users to instantly test how changes to a road’s attributes will affect its risk and Star Rating.
SR4D Web App
ViDA’s SR4D web app helps designers Star Rate new and existing road designs.
Developed with support from the World Bank, this tool helps road designers to Star Rate new and existing road designs. It allows designers to upload designs or access existing road conditions via imagery, enabling them to consider safety implications as they work.

RAPIDO is a tool that leverages the iRAP Star Rating methodology to accelerate safety assessments across entire networks or corridors. It allows users to create or select road stereotypes, which are then used to quickly Star Rate long, homogeneous sections of a road network.
