Victoria’s road safety journey since 1970 is showcased as an example for other countries and partners to learn from. In Victoria, an 80 per cent reduction in annual road deaths has been achieved with the implementation of a range of road user behaviour, enforcement, education, legislation, and infrastructure interventions over time.

At its launch in Adelaide, the exhibit was complemented with a range of interactives allowing stand visitors to take Victoria’s road safety journey from 1970 – 2050 via virtual reality headsets, test their knowledge on speed and crash outcomes and explore Explorador de información sobre seguridad de iRAP to see how safe their country’s roads are, the human and economic impact of injury, the road attributes that matter and the Business Case for Safer Roads.

The iRAP-TAC Road to Zero through the Safe System Approach exhibit draws on materials from the world-first Road to Zero Education Complex at the Melbourne Museum in Australia which engages young people, the community and road safety stakeholders in innovative, experiential education, supporting the goals of Victoria’s approach to road safety.
The Road to Zero Education Complex was awarded a 2021 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award recognising its success and attraction of many visitors, especially young people, and a 2020 Museums and Galleries National Award for Learning, Interpretation and Audience Engagement. Road to Zero, developed by TAC in partnership with Melbourne Museum, is also offered as a free curriculum-based education programme to high school students via school visitations.
