If You Had Two Minutes with World Leaders, What Would You Say to Them About Road Safety?

In a few weeks (20-21 July), the Naciones Unidas will host a High-Level Meeting on Road Safety in New York. Governments, the private sector, NGOs and experts from around the world will come together to discuss how we can accelerate progress and save lives.

iRAP will be there, but iRAP CEO Greg Smith is also keen to hear from you – people working in transport and infrastructure every day.

If you had the microphone, what would you say? What do world leaders need to hear?

To get you started, here are a few reminders from the latest Global Status Report on Road Safety:

🚸 More than 3,200 people die on the world’s roads every day.
🚸 Road traffic injuries remain the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29.
🚸 Many countries have made impressive progress and shown that safer journeys are possible.
🚸 Yet globally, fatalities have fallen by only around 5% over the last decade – even as mobility has continued to grow.
🚸 Less than half of the world’s roads achieve a 3-star safety rating or better.

For sure we’ve seen progress, but it’s nowhere near enough.

So, if you had the opportunity to influence the global road safety agenda, what would be your priority?

No idea is too huge or too practical. Whether it’s about infrastructure, funding, speed management, vehicle safety, data, enforcement, active mobility, or something else completely, we’d love to hear your ideas.
