Dr Suzy Charman, Executive Director of the Fundação para a Segurança Viária (RSF), has seen her services to road safety recognised with an OBE in The King’s 2026 Birthday Honours List.
Dr Charman is a leading expert on the Safe System, with more than 20 years’ experience.
In her role at the RSF, Dr Charman leads the Programa de Avaliação de Estradas do Reino Unido and is a recognised thought-leader on speed management and infrastructure safety.
Prior to joining RSF, she served as head of international road safety at TRL and before that played a pivotal role in the establishment of iRAP.
Taking to LinkedIn, Dr Charman said: “My little name is among some truly great ones in the King’s birthday honours. It is rather overwhelming and very surprising!
“When I got the letter I thought I was being called up for jury service and when I read it I cried! It means so much!
“Thank you to everyone who has been on my journey with me – team road safety is full of incredibly brilliant, passionate and insightful people, many of whom I call friends.”
