TanRAP is one of the key milestones of the Tienstappenplan voor een veiliger wegeninfrastructuurproject., aiming at building institutional capacity in the country and contributing to the Government of Tanzania efforts to reduce road injuries and fatalities in line with the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021 – 2030.
On 14 September 2022, TanRAP funding and supporting organisations convened in Dar es Salaam to mark the launch of the project, chaired by Hon. Atupele Mwakibete, the Deputy Minister (Transport), Ministry of Works and Transport. Full press release can be found hier.
Jointly funded by the Fonds voor verkeersveiligheid van de Verenigde Naties (UNRSF) and by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (UKAid), through the Wereldwijde verkeersveiligheidsfaciliteit (GRSF) van de Wereldbank, the Ten Step Plan Tanzania is a 30-month project designed to meet the specific needs of Tanzania and build sustainable institutional capacity, impact and partnerships. Under the guidance of the Economische Commissie van de Verenigde Naties voor Afrika (UNECA) the project is being implemented by a consortium led by the Internationale Wegfederatie (IRF), and includes the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), de Wereldwegenvereniging (PIARC) en de Tanzania Roads Association (TARA). The project has brought together the Government of Tanzania through MoWT, TANROADS, TARURA, National Institute of Transport (NIT), and other leading institutions, NGOs and industry stakeholders in Tanzania.
