iRAP joined the Movi·Lab Escolar Conference last week in Sao Paulo, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Tecnologico de Monterrey’s Centre for the Future of Cities, and Insper Institute of Education and Research.
Movi·Lab Escolar responds to a critical regional challenge: road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among children aged 5–14.
We were proud to contribute with insights on how safe road infrastructure can contribute to safe school mobility, liveable cities and initiatives to reduce the burden of road trauma associated with motorcycle crashes.
Day two of the event included a site visit to Jundiaí to see safe school zone interventions in action and a workshop to enhance child road safety for country contexts. More than a technical visit, it was an opportunity to see how public policies can translate into safer, more sustainable school environments.
The conference builds on the evidence, tools and partnerships needed to improve children’s health, wellbeing and educational outcomes through safe school mobility, bringing together technical experts, practitioners, FIA Region IV Latin American clubs, UNITAR and road safety NGOs.
iRAP was represented by Global Projects Director Julio Urzua and Safer Journeys Lead for the Americas Edgar Zamora.
