iRAP Highlights the Impact of Road Assessments on Investment Planning for Safer Mobility at IRF Europe and Central Asia Regional Congress

iRAP was pleased to participate in the IRF Europe and Central Asia Regional Congress and Exhibition in Tbilisi, Georgia, bringing together government leaders, road authorities, development partners, industry experts, researchers and practitioners to explore how resilient, smart and safe roads can drive sustainable growth across the region.

Hosted by the International Road Federation (IRF Global), the congress focused on the theme “Connecting Europe and Central Asia: Resilient, Smart and Safe Roads Driving Sustainable Growth” and featured discussions on road safety, digital transformation, climate resilience, infrastructure investment, asset management and capacity building.

As part of the programme, iRAP and the International Road Federation co-hosted the session “Safer Roads for Safer Mobility: From Risk Assessment to Investment Planning”, examining how infrastructure and risk assessments are helping road agencies across Europe and Central Asia make evidence-based decisions and prioritise investments that deliver the greatest safety benefits for road users.

Moderated by Samar Abouraad, Global Safer Journeys Specialist at iRAP, the session featured presentations and discussion from:

  • Dr. Sudeshna Mitra, Transport Specialist, World Bank
  • Dr. Evangelos Bellos, Senior Researcher, National Technical University of Athens and Strategic Advisor, EASST
  • Ekaterine Laliashvili, Chair of the Board, Georgia Alliance for Safe Roads.

Through regional experience and practical case studies, speakers highlighted how road assessment programmes are being applied on both rural and urban networks to identify risk, support investment planning and contribute to safer mobility outcomes. Delegates gained valuable insights into the role of data-driven approaches in creating safer, more sustainable transport systems across the region.

iRAP thanks the International Road Federation, speakers, partners and delegates for the engaging discussions and shared commitment to creating safer roads and safer journeys throughout Europe and Central Asia.
