NigeriaRAP Steering Committee Inaugurated to Advance Safer Roads

The inaugural meeting of the NigeriaRAP Steering Committee was held in Abuja yesterday, marking an important milestone in the establishment of Nigeria’s Road Assessment Programme and the country’s commitment to eliminating high-risk roads.

The meeting, held at the Departamento de Segurança Rodoviária Federal headquarters, was presided over by the FRSC Corps Marshal and brought together representatives from the Federal Ministry of Works, a Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD) Trust, a Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN), o Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, and the FRSC management team.

NigeriaRAP Desk Officer, Eng Dandy Ejeh Omale, delivered a presentation outlining the programme’s objectives and proposed activities, providing the foundation for discussions on priority actions for the year ahead.

The Steering Committee considered the next steps for implementing NigeriaRAP, including strengthening institutional collaboration, building technical capacity, and advancing the use of the iRAP methodology to identify and treat high-risk roads.

The establishment of the Steering Committee represents a significant step towards embedding the internationally recognised minimum 3-star safety standard for Nigeria’s roads, supporting data-driven investment decisions and helping to create safer journeys for all road users.
