Australian urban toll road operator Transurban has been awarded iRAP Certificering for achieving a 4-star safety rating on its network by vehicle kilometres travelled.
iRAP congratulates Transurban on its safety leadership and this impressive result which exceeds the National Road Safety Target to achieve 90 per cent of travel at 3 sterren of beter for national highways.
Elizabeth Waller, Head of Road Safety at Transurban said as one of the world’s largest toll-road operators, Transurban prides itself on getting people where they want to go, as quickly and safely as possible.
“As an industry leader, we set high standards for our performance on safety, social and environmental issues. We are committed to design our roads to deliver 3-star or better safety performance and lasting benefits to our communities,” she said.
Over the past two decades, Transurban has built a track record of partnering with governments to successfully deliver and manage key road infrastructure, and has also been recognised for developing innovative solutions to improve the safety and efficiency of transport networks.
“We were delighted to partner with the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) to assess our safety performance and have it verified at the global road infrastructure standard of iRAP,” Ms Waller said.
The assessment showed that 100% of Transurban’s 403km network length achieved the national 3-star or better safety target and in fact the majority rated 4-star.

iRAP Sterrenclassificatie Certificering geproduceerd kan worden voor elke bestaande, geüpgrade of nieuwe weg, of wegontwerp, dat is beoordeeld met iRAP-hulpmiddelen om een score van 3 sterren of beter te behalen.
Certificering is vrijwillig en kan worden aangevraagd voor alle of een selectie van de weggebruikersgroepen waarvoor een sterbeoordeling is opgesteld (voertuiginzittenden, motorrijders, voetgangers en fietsers).
Als wegbeheerders, investeerders en ontwerpers steeds meer ernaar streven om de Wereldwijd Plan voor het Decennium van Actie voor Verkeersveiligheid 2021-2030, officiële certificering biedt een communicatiemogelijkheid om het behalen van een sterrenclassificatiedoelstelling te vieren en de status van een weg of ontwerp formeel te verifiëren.
