Van slimme voertuigen tot veilige wegen: wordt de eerste leverancier van voertuiggegevens die de wereldwijde AiRAP-accreditatie behaalt

NIRA Dynamics has become the first global vehicle data provider to achieve AiRAP Accreditation. This milestone confirms NIRA’s ability to generate essential, high-quality road attribute data for iRAP road safety assessments, directly supporting safer mobility and infrastructure optimization worldwide.

The accreditation recognises NIRA Dynamics’ capability to provide validated data for six key road attributes – road condition, skid resistance, vehicle flow (AADT), operating speed (mean and 85th percentile), and speed limits.

With expertise spanning software engineering, data science and automotive innovation, NIRA Dynamics is focused on creating safer and more sustainable roads through connected vehicle intelligence and advanced analytics.

From Road Surface Alerts and Conditions (RSC) technologies helping road authorities better understand changing road conditions in real time, to enabling self-driving cars, NIRA’s AiRAP Accreditation further positions the Swedish tech provider to support infrastructure safety assessment and roads that cars can read.

“We are proud to partner with iRAP and accelerate their vision of a world free of high-risk roads,” said Lisa Abom, CEO of NIRA Dynamics. “By combining our connected vehicle data with iRAP’s globally recognized risk models, we are equipping road authorities with the insights needed to prioritize maintenance, optimize infrastructure investments, and ultimately save lives. This is a critical step in making roads that cars can read, enhancing the driving experience for everyone.”

“High-quality, scalable data is critical to improving road safety performance globally,” said James Bradford, Global Technical Director of iRAP. “The AiRAP Accreditation of NIRA Dynamics demonstrates the growing role of innovative vehicle-based technologies in supporting infrastructure safety assessment and evidence-based investment decisions. This accreditation marks an important milestone for the AiRAP initiative, with NIRA becoming the first accredited vehicle data supplier. By integrating NIRA’s real-world road condition and speed data into our Star Rating and risk mapping tools, we can accelerate the identification and prioritisation of life-saving infrastructure improvements.”

AiRAP accreditation confirms that NIRA Dynamics’ data handling, processing and analytics methods meet stringent standards for quality and value to support iRAP’s road assessment risk models.

With this certification, NIRA joins a growing community of accredited data providers collectively helping to accelerate targeted global efforts toward Vision Zero and safer road networks.

The AiRAP accreditation process is open to any data provider and is managed as part of iRAP’s broader accreditation program.

Over iRAP

The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is a registered charity with the vision for a world free of high-risk roads. The charity works with governments, development banks, mobility clubs, industry, research organisations and road safety NGOs to provide them with the free methodology, tools, training, and support to make their roads safer. iRAP’s Star Rating Methodology provides a simple and objective measure of the level of safety which is ‘built-in’ to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. A 1-star road is the least safe and a 5-star road is the safest. As at December 2025, iRAP partners have assessed the safety of 2.2 million kilometres of roads and designs (including 2,475 schools) in 140 countries, informing the safety of US$120 billion of road infrastructure investments. Informed by the iRAP methodology, road safety infrastructure changes and safer speeds have prevented 860,000 deaths and serious injuries in 74 countries since 2016. 93,000 people have been trained. The charity’s tools and support are made freely available thanks to the support of major donor the FIA Foundation and supporter Aleatica Foundation. iRAP is a member of: Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA); FIA Foundation; World Road Association (PIARC); United Nations Economic and Social Council (Consultative Status); United Nations Road Safety Collaboration; Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety; and the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 241 – Road Traffic Safety Management Systems Liaison.
