hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Our latest programme metrics underscore the life-saving power of iRAP partnerships &#8211; helping prevent almost 860,000 deaths and injuries, delivering more than 4.2 million kilometres of road safety assessments across 140 countries influencing the safety of US$120 billion in infrastructure investment, and training nearly 93,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>Each June and December, we compile a comprehensive global analysis of partner activity to measure impact and celebrate progress.<\/p>\n<p>The latest figures, as at the end of 2025, are made possible thanks to the generous support of our major donor the FIA Foundation; programme supporters Aleatica Foundation and Prudence Foundation; and the outstanding commitment of our 38,000 partners worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/iRAP_Dec_2025_metrics_ENG.jpg&#8221; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Download the iRAP Metrics Infographic in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/resources.irap.org\/Metrics\/iRAP_Dec_2025_metrics_EN.jpg\">English<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/resources.irap.org\/Metrics\/iRAP_Dec_2025_metrics_PT.jpg\">Portuguese<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/resources.irap.org\/Metrics\/iRAP_Dec_2025_metrics_SP.jpg\">Spanish<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Highlights include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lives and injuries saved<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research by Johns Hopkins University,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2024\/05\/700000-lives-deaths-and-serious-injuries-saved-john-hopkins-report\/\">published in the respected journal PLOS One<\/a>, estimates that iRAP partners have prevented nearly 860,000 deaths and serious injuries using the iRAP methodology and tools to inform road safety infrastructure changes and safer speeds between 2016 and the end of 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Assessments informing safer road upgrades<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To date, 2 million km of roads and designs have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/infrastructure-ratings\/star-ratings\/\">Star Rated<\/a>\u00a0and 2.2 million km have been Crash\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/crash-data\/crash-risk-mapping\/\">Risk Mapped<\/a>\u00a0in 140 countries.<\/li>\n<li>The assessments are influencing US$120 billion of safer roads upgrades for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and vehicle occupants.<\/li>\n<li>In the last six months, Star Rating assessments have been conducted in 31 countries, including:<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>First iRAP assessments completed in Armenia, Chad, Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania and Oman.<\/li>\n<li>Large assessments (&gt;1,000km) completed in Australia (21,298km), Thailand (17,243km), the United Kingdom (12,278km), Saudi Arabia (9,249km), South Africa (4,017km), Mexico (3,832km), USA (3,219km), Uruguay (2,376km), Indonesia (2,280km), Brazil (1,825km) and Oman (1,489km).<\/li>\n<li>In total, 9.5 million km of full Star Rating analysis and investment scenarios have now been undertaken in iRAP\u2019s free software platform\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/enabling-software\/vida\/\">ViDA<\/a> used by more than 25,498 partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/vida_map_dec_2025.png&#8221; title_text=&#8221;vida_map_dec_2025&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>ViDA Star Rating Assessments Map (excludes Risk Mapping)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 97,000km of Risk Mapping has been added in the last six months based on annual assessments undertaken in Australia, Spain and the United Kingdom, along with longer-term performance tracking assessments in Tunisia and New Zealand helping to inform advocacy and strategic investment planning.<\/li>\n<li>Over 65,000km of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/star-rating-for-designs\/\">designs have been Star Rated<\/a> globally over all time, with designs analysis occurring for the first time this period in Burundi, New Zealand and Senegal.\u00a0Larger Star Rating for Designs (SR4D) projects have been undertaken in Papua New Guinea (3,759km), Brazil (1,099km), Mozambique (363km), Senegal (162km), Australia (156km), Costa Rica (153km),\u00a0 Mongolia (141km), Uruguay (67km) and New Zealand (51km). Two projects advanced during the year are helping to improve the safety of road design standards. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gtkp.com\/themepage\/road-safety\/safe-and-inclusive-road-designs-in-central-asia\/\">Safe and Inclusive Design in Central Asia project\u00a0<\/a>(now complete) is helping to improve road design standards in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, with the release of a Safe Road Design Guidance and potential region-wide impact. In addition, the UN Road Safety Fund-supported <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/10\/regional-stakeholders-convene-in-marrakech-for-safe-and-inclusive-road-design-workshop\/\">Safe and Inclusive Design in Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal<\/a> project is supporting safer road design in these three countries. Designs are also being made safer supported by other <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/\">iRAP Tools<\/a>\u00a0such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/enabling-software\/star-rating-demonstrator\/\">Star Rating Demonstrator<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/investment-planning\/route-review-tool\/\">Route Review Tool<\/a> is in use in 18 countries. It enables engineers to review an iRAP road safety assessment, Safer Roads Investment Plans, and predictions for fatal and serious injuries, and suggest infrastructure changes based on their own expertise and local knowledge. Using the iRAP model, User Defined Investment Plans can be generated, estimating the affect proposed changes will have on the Star Rating of the road and injury reductions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Safer school journeys<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/starratingforschools.org\/\">Star Rating for Schools (SR4S)\u00a0<\/a>celebrated five years of inspirational partner impact in February during the 4th Global Ministerial Conference in Marrakech.<\/li>\n<li>2,475 schools have now been assessed by SR4S partners in 84 countries, positively impacting the safety of an estimated 515,305 students.<\/li>\n<li>Schools were assessed for the first time in Burundi, Jordan, Palestine and Zimbabwe. Saudi Arabia leads the world with the highest number of schools assessed (321 schools), followed by Vietnam (278), Philippines (259), Uruguay (134) and India (133).<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/starratingforschools.org\/youth-engagement-app\/\">Youth Engagement App (YEA)<\/a>, developed as part of the Botnar Ai&amp;Me project has been highly successful in capturing youth perceptions of risk, with pins marking where 4,495 children feel safe and unsafe on their journey to school supporting SR4S results. YEA pilot projects are now extending beyond Vietnam to Peru, South Africa and Chile.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2026\/01\/aime-phase-ii-officially-kicks-off-in-vinh-long-and-an-giang-provinces-empowering-youth\/\">Empowering Youth for Liveable Cities (AI&amp;Me2)<\/a> project is focused on youth engagement. It includes scalability to new countries and technical enhancements to Star Rating for Schools and the YEA app. In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2024\/12\/harnessing-360-degree-images-to-transform-school-zone-safety-in-vietnam\/\">Google AI for the Global Goals Project<\/a> is further leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), SR4S and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/project\/ai-rap\/\">AiRAP<\/a>\u00a0partnerships for big data analysis and road safety impact Vietnam-wide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Safer cycling journeys<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>14 trusted suppliers are supporting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/cyclerap\/\">CycleRAP\u00a0<\/a>projects and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/cyclerap\/demonstrator\/\">CycleRAP Demonstrator<\/a>\u00a0tool in five languages is aiding the quick assessment of cycling and light mobility infrastructure safety in 31 countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Building road safety capacity<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>92,596 people have been trained in 176 countries since 2005 (adding 5,400 people trained in the last six months).<\/li>\n<li>Courses have been delivered in 23 languages.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/accreditation\/\">iRAP\u2019s Accreditation Programme<\/a>\u00a0is supporting 284 accredited practitioners and 17 systems in 51 countries, helping to ensure iRAP specification services are delivered to the same consistent global standard no matter where you are in the world. The last six months have seen the first accreditation of practitioners in Ghana, Peru and Sri Lanka.<\/li>\n<li>Client feedback forms continue to rate iRAP Accredited Practitioners with excellence \u2013 100% of client feedback forms received this year rate practitioners\u2019 performance as excellent or very good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Strategic projects<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>63 Strategic Project partnerships were supported by the iRAP team in 2025 including 33 new projects.<\/li>\n<li>23 <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/certification\/\">Star Rating Certifications<\/a> have now been issued recognising 3-star or better safety in eight countries.<\/li>\n<li>Some notable multi-national project collaborations include:\n<ul>\n<li>The EU-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2023\/06\/project-phoebes-pilot-plans-for-athens-unveiled\/\">project PHOEBE <\/a>which aims to develop an integrated, dynamic, human-centred, predictive safety assessment framework for vulnerable road users in urban areas in three pilot cities\/counties of Athens, Valencia and West Midlands;<\/li>\n<li>The EU-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2023\/06\/a-new-eu-project-is-on-the-horizon-meet-elaborator\/\">ELABORATOR project <\/a>for designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate neutral cities in 12 cities of Europe;<\/li>\n<li>The<a href=\"https:\/\/ivory-network.eu\/\">\u00a0IVORY <\/a>industrial doctorates network aiming to develop a new framework for the optimal integration of AI in road safety and involving four European universities and eight industry partners;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/camber-project.eu\/\">CAMBER\u00a0<\/a>(Connected and Adaptive Maintenance for Safer Urban and Secondary Roads) project in five European countries to improve safety monitoring across urban and secondary rural road networks.<\/li>\n<li>The<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/11\/ten-step-plan-for-safer-road-infrastructure-in-senegal-one-year-progress-report\/\"> Ten Step Senegal Project<\/a>, funded by the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) &#8211; a collaborative initiative of national and international partners led by iRAP to eliminate high-risk roads and build safer roads capacity in Senegal.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Driving global innovation for safer roads <\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/innovation\/\">iRAP\u2019s Innovation Framework\u00a0<\/a>is supporting 159 partners in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/innovation\/\">projects and initiatives <\/a>to create the global and local tools to meet diverse needs and ensure continuous improvement of the iRAP offering.<\/li>\n<li>Projects such as PHOEBE, ELABORATOR, CAMBER and the\u00a0IVORY network\u00a0are rapidly contributing to global knowledge and expertise in the fields of AI in road safety, sustainable urban mobility for climate neutral cities, road safety for vulnerable road users, and safety monitoring across urban and secondary rural road networks.<\/li>\n<li>Transoft Solutions and The Floow joined Agilysis, Anditi and TomTom as Accredited\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/project\/ai-rap\/\">AiRAP<\/a>\u00a0data suppliers capable of producing data for particular attributes and regions in accordance with the iRAP Coding Manual.<\/li>\n<li>Global partnerships in 2025 are supporting an <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2026\/02\/new-improved-irap-star-rating-model-coming-soon\/\">update to iRAP&#8217;s Star Rating Model<\/a>, due for release in May, aligned to international best practice and the latest research on crash risk factors particularly for vulnerable road users.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t miss our upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/12\/mark-your-diaries-2026-irap-innovation-workshop-announced\/\">2026 iRAP Innovation Workshop<\/a> coming up on 20 May in Budapest, part of Transport Research Arena (TRA2026).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Policy embedding for 3-star or better safety<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>World Bank published its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalroadsafetyfacility.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-02\/Financing%20Road%20Safety%20-%20Catalyzing%20the%20Sustainable%20Finance%20Market%20to%20Bridge%20the%20Gap.pdf\">Financing Road Safety Projects Eligible Use of Proceeds Policy <\/a>with iRAP targets for safer road infrastructure. This brings the total policy sum to 96. See the global showcase <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/policies-into-practice\/\">here<\/a>. As we rolled into 2026, it\u2019s been great to see the United Kingdom publish its first <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2026\/01\/great-britains-new-road-safety-strategy-released\/\">National Road Safety Strategy<\/a> for Britain in ten years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Locally owned and led Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>NigeriaRAP launched in November, joining PakRAP, SnRAP and KazRAP launched earlier in 2025. There are now <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/policies-into-practice\/\">18 National Road Assessment Programmes<\/a>, driving local coordination and impact.<\/li>\n<li>Just two of many RAP milestones this period include the release of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/09\/check-it-out-ausrap-releases-new-national-dashboard-sharing-road-safety-ratings\/\">AusRAP National Dashboard <\/a>mapping Star Ratings and crash data for 71,000km of Australia&#8217;s major roads, and the December hosting of a KSARAP National Workshop sharing Saudi Arabia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2026\/01\/celebrating-three-year-progress-of-ksarap\/\">three-year programme progress<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>As well as supporting our established\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/resources-for-raps\/\">\u2018x\u2019RAP programmes<\/a>, interest for new RAPs is being supported in Malawi, Kenya, Chile, Korea, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Jamaica, Colombia, Indonesia and Peru.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Insights and support for the benefit of all<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Tracking iRAP\u2019s global programme is made possible thanks to our invaluable Partner Management System iRAP Connect, facilitated with the generous sponsorship of FedEx and the FIA Foundation.<\/li>\n<li>Insights are freely shared via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irapconnectportal.irap.org\/\">iRAP Partner Portal<\/a>, accessible to anyone who\u2019d like to explore over 20 years of iRAP activity, news, knowledge, national data, training and projects across the world.
