Global Programme and Communications Manager recognised for two decades of collaborative dedication in Road Safety.<\/strong><\/p>\n

[Perth, Australia, 21 October]<\/strong> \u2013 The inspirational leadership of iRAP\u2019s Global Programme and Communications Manager Judy Williams was recognised last night, with her awarded the 2025 ACRS Women in Road Safety Award<\/a> at the Australasian Road Safety Conference Gala Dinner.<\/p>\n

The Australian College of Road Safety (ACRS) award<\/a>, sponsored by Austroads, celebrates the outstanding contributions of women working to reduce road trauma anywhere in the world, recognising female leaders who are actively shaping road safety policy, research, practice, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

The award highlights excellence in impact in their role in helping to reduce road trauma; a track record of active involvement in road safety projects and initiatives; leadership through innovation, influence, and inspiration in the sector; and commitment to encouraging and empowering women in the field.<\/p>\n

The announcement was delivered by ACRS CEO Dr Ingrid Johnston, and the award was formally presented by Austroads CEO Geoff Allan, in the company of ACRS President, Teresa Williams.<\/p>\n

Accepting the prestigious honour, Judy Williams spoke of her deep appreciation and immediately used the moment to champion her peers. “I\u2019m overwhelmed, and delighted,” she said. “Understanding the calibre of very fine and accomplished women working in road safety, I take this moment to celebrate them all.”<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her more than 20 years in the sector, Judy highlighted the essential spirit of the road safety community, which she described as a “sense of family” working with passion and genuine care.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging the persistent challenges, she urged continued action, noting, “Despite all our efforts, our road toll is climbing, and we need to do more. What I do know for sure is our success will come in working together \u2026 with transparency, courage and self-less collaboration.”<\/p>\n

She also affirmed the critical nature of her own work in communications and partnerships, stating the award is a testament to its value.<\/p>\n

“The selection of me is a wonderful testament to the importance of communications in our road safety efforts \u2013 telling the story, sharing the data, promoting knowledge and resources so others can freely benefit, and celebrating our success,” she said. “When we know better, we do better; when our heart\u2019s engaged, we read on; when we see success with our own eyes, we believe it\u2019s possible; and when we believe, we commit. That\u2019s good communications.”<\/p>\n

Judy concluded her acceptance speech by thanking two key mentors who have been instrumental in her career: Professor Mary Sheehan and Rob McInerney. She credited them with embodying the dedication needed for progress.<\/p>\n

“They have taught me the incredible gift of mentorship, and that progress is made by the people that turn up, lead from the heart and don\u2019t give up.”<\/p>\n
