This week, the President of Chile officially opened the Industrial Bridge in the Biob\u00edo region, a significant achievement in the country’s infrastructure. With an investment of $250 million and a length of 6.4 kilometres, it is now the longest viaduct in Chile, benefiting more than 1.5 million people with a flow of around 600,000 vehicles per month.<\/p>\n

The Industrial Bridge\u2019s infrastructure is a testament to the power of proactive, evidence-based road safety design. Four years ago, iRAP conducted a Star Rating of the bridge’s designs on behalf of the concessionaire, Aleatica<\/a>. Through our assessment, we suggested key countermeasures to ensure the bridge would achieve a minimum 3-star rating or better.<\/p>\n

Today, we celebrate with our partners the result of that foresight and collaboration: a safe and high-performing infrastructure now available for public use.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Aleatica on their road safety leadership, aiming to achieve the UN Global Goals – ensuring all new roads are built to a 3-star or better standard for all road users (Target 3), and more than 75% of travel is on the equivalent of 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 (Target 4). Applying the Star Rating for Designs process allowed for this life-saving achievement to be built into the project at the design stage, providing confidence to investors, operators, and government.<\/p>\n

This project is a clear example of how our work with partners can translate into life-saving infrastructure and a tangible step toward a world free of high-risk roads.<\/p>\n
