iRAP, our Centre of Excellence LabTrans, and Brazil’s Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs) were on show at Paving Expo 2025,<\/a> Latin America’s premier event for road and highway infrastructure and construction which took place from 23\u201325 September in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n Over 4,000 congress participants, 300 exhibitors and 20,000 Expo visitors attended the conference drawn from government, industry, highway concessionaires, academia, and civil society working to improve traffic safety and management, infrastructure resilience and sustainability.<\/p>\n iRAP contributed to the organization of two expert panels \u2014 one dedicated to iRAP, and another focused on the future of Free Flow technologies. Rodovias 360\u00ba iRAP Panel<\/strong><\/h3>\n
<\/strong><\/em>The BrazilRAP Programme<\/a> was launched in November 2019 to assess the road safety of federal highways in Brazil. DNIT adopted iRAP’s methodology and in just 20 months, supported by local partners and iRAP, Star Rated the country\u2019s extensive 57,000 km network, providing essential data to identify high-risk road segments and develop Safer Roads Investment Plans for each State that prioritised cost-effective engineering countermeasures to improve road safety. The BrazilRAP Project expects to prevent more than 150,000 serious injuries and fatalities over a 20-year period with an economic benefit of BRL 45 billion. Mr Guilherme shared progress and challenges the programme faces. DNIT was awarded the iRAP Gary Liddle Memorial Trophy in 2023, which recognises the world\u2019s best performing road authority eliminating high-risk roads.<\/p>\n
In May 2024, the State of S\u00e3o Paulo partnered with iRAP through the DER, to launch the BrazilRAP S\u00e3o Paulo Programme<\/a> – the first state-based programme of its kind in the world. The programme aims to classify the safety levels of S\u00e3o Paulo’s roads using the iRAP methodology and tools. The survey data are combined with information from the 2023 Road Accident Yearbook, published by the DER, to improve the S\u00e3o Paulo Road Safety Plan. Mr Codelo shared the main advances and challenges that the SaoPauloRAP programme is facing.<\/p>\n
