We were pleased to meet on Tuesday with NGO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/roadsafetymalawi\/\">Road Safety Alert Foundation<\/a> to discuss how iRAP can support them and local partners to eliminate high-risk roads.<\/p>\n<p>During his National Statement at the High-level Meeting, The Hon. Jacob Hara MP, Minister for Transport and Public Works, Malawi said:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I am honoured to lead the Malawi Delegation to the UN High-level Meeting on Road Safety under the delegation of the President, Dr Chakwera. Road accidents are the number 1 killer among young men claiming 35,000 lives each day globally. 90% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Africa, despite having 2% of the global vehicle population is the worst hit. Poor road infrastructure and driver behaviour are the most common causes of the accidents in Malawi, reducing up to 3% of our GDP. I have committed the nation towards safer roads to reduce road carnage by at least 50% by the year 2030.
