It is a global event to remember the many millions who have been killed and seriously injured on the world&#8217;s roads, and to acknowledge the suffering of all affected victims, families and communities.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of WDoR 2023 is &#8220;Remember. Support. Act.&#8221; This theme emphasizes the importance of remembering those who have been lost, supporting those who have been affected, and taking action to prevent future road deaths and injuries.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.23&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.23&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMEMBER:\u00a0<\/strong>We remember the millions of people who have lost their lives or been seriously injured in road crashes. We remember their loved ones, and the pain and grief that they are experiencing. We provide them with emotional and practical support, and we advocate for their rights. We work with governments, businesses, and civil society organizations to promote road safety policies and practices. Many communities around the world hold WDoR events, such as candlelight vigils, memorial services, and awareness campaigns. There are many charities that are working to prevent road deaths and injuries. You can donate money, time, or skills to support their work.<\/li>\n<li>Become a road safety advocate. You can speak out about road safety issues in your community, and encourage your elected officials to take action to improve road safety.<\/li>\n<li>Adopt safe road behaviors. Make sure to wear your seatbelt, obey the speed limit, and avoid driving distracted or impaired.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By getting involved in WDoR 2023, you can help to make the world&#8217;s roads safer for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage iRAP partners to support this annual commemorative event; to remember the innocent lives lost, support the global call to end preventable road traffic crashes and share your action to save lives. The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims continues to play an important part in highlighting the very reason for all the necessary actions outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.who.int\/media\/docs\/default-source\/documents\/health-topics\/road-traffic-injuries\/global-plan-for-road-safety.pdf?sfvrsn=65cf34c8_27&amp;download=true\">Global Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.23&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>iRAP continues to support this important day as we pause to #RememberSupportAct for 3-star or better roads for all road users.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the donor support of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiafoundation.org\/\">FIA Foundation<\/a>, iRAP works with partners worldwide to make sure new roads are safe and high-risk existing roads are financed and improved on a scale that matters. Together, we will ensure safe journeys for all road users aligned with important global agendas focussed on road safety, child health, climate, transport, gender and urban mobility.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP produces a wide range of resources to help road safety practitioners and advocates. These resources can be used to support WDoR activities in a number of ways.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/toolkit.irap.org\/\">Road Safety Toolkit<\/a> provides a one-stop resource for information on the causes and prevention of road crashes. The toolkit includes fact sheets, case studies, and practical guidance on how to implement road safety programs and interventions.<\/p>\n<p>The recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/safety-insights-explorer\/\">iRAP\u2019s Safety Insights Explorer<\/a>, which shines a light on the true scale of road crashes, the safety of the world\u2019s roads, and the positive impact that can be made with investment.<\/p>\n<p>With the iRAP Safety Insights Explorer you can explore:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Estimates of the numbers and types of injuries that occur for every country by age and sex.<\/li>\n<li>Star Ratings and key design attributes for more than 502,000km of roads in 84 countries.<\/li>\n<li>The business case for investing in safer roads, including the life-saving impact of ensuring that most travel occurs on roads rated 3-stars or better for everyone for every country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional resources available to help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/resources-for-raps\/\">Resources for 5-star RAPs \u2013\u00a0<\/a>An online package of new\u00a0<strong><em>Resources for 5-star RAPs<\/em><\/strong>, funded by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fedexcares.com\/\">FedEx<\/a>, has launched\u00a0to support road assessment programmes around the world eliminate high-risk roads and save lives.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/rap-tools\/\">RAP Tools menu<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 iRAP and its partners have developed a suite of tools that use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/methodology\/\">iRAP methodology\u00a0<\/a>to support infrastructure safety management globally and locally.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/about-us\/where-we-work\/\">Overview Summary of Countries\u2019 Progress<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 this summary\u00a0shares national safer roads activity for 160 countries and the human and economic benefit of achieving UN Targets 3 and 4 by 2030. A supporting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/about-us\/where-we-work\/\">web-based table<\/a>\u00a0can be filtered to a country, key word or multiple countries based on income level or global region.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2021\/05\/irap-star-ratings-of-nacto-gdcis-global-street-design-guide-now-available-in-multiple-languages\/\">iRAP Star Ratings of NACTO-GDCI\u2019s Global Street Design Guide\u00a0<\/a>resource is free and here to help you design safe streets in your community, to help save lives and improve sustainable mobility for all road users.
