iRAP has released its Plan for the Second\u00a0Decade of Action for Road Safety <\/a>to save 2,000,000+ people from death or injury, make 200,000+km of roads safer and influence USD$200 billion of road infrastructure investment to save lives in the next 10 years.<\/p>\n

With the theme \u201cPartnerships for 2030 Impact\u201d, the charity\u2019s partnerships at the local, national and global level will be focused on achieving the UN Global Targets 3 and 4, to ensure all new roads are built to a 3-star or better standard for all road users (Target 3), and more than 75% of travel is on the equivalent of 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 (Target 4).<\/p>\n

iRAP\u2019s Plan is aligned to the Global Plan for the Decade of Action<\/a> launched last week, of which achieving 3-star or better journeys is one of 5 key areas for action.<\/p>\n

With the donor support of the FIA Foundation<\/a>, iRAP will work with partners worldwide to make sure new roads are safe and high-risk existing roads are financed and improved on a scale that matters. Together, we will ensure safe journeys for all road users aligned with important global agendas focussed on road safety, child health, climate, transport, gender and urban mobility.<\/p>\n

The next Decade will strategically target iRAP\u2019s global approach and tools to achieve partnerships for 2030 impact in key priority initiatives to deliver scale and maximize lives saved.<\/p>\n

iRAP CEO Rob McInerney said, \u201cOur vision is for a world free of high-risk roads and working together with our partners, we can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and halve global road deaths by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Launch of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action<\/a> held on 28 October, Dr Nhan Tran, Coordinator of Unintentional Injury, World Health Organisation profiled safe road infrastructure as one of 5 areas of action, emphasizing the importance of standards and designs to ensure 3-star roads that are safe for all road users.<\/p>\n

Lord George Robertson, Chair of the FIA Foundation said he was proud of the initiatives the FIA Foundation has supported like iRAP, Global NCAP and our safe schools partnerships.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we begin the Second Decade of Action, all governments must step up with real commitments to provide minimum 3-star safety design standards for all highways, to support Streets for Life and low-speed liveable cities and to ensure that every child has a safe and healthy journey to school,\u201d Lord Robertson said.<\/p>\n

\u201ciRAP is ready to support partners and governments as they draw on the Global Plan to develop and implement national and local action plans to halve global road deaths and injuries by 2030,\u201d Mr McInerney said.<\/p>\n

\u201ciRAP\u2019s 2nd Decade of Action Plan will ensure safer journeys for all road users building on a foundation of good governance, shared success and a 5-star team with great partnerships, programme support, tools and projects for the mutual benefit of all,\u201d he said.
