Letters have been sent to Heads of State and Governments sharing the opportunity of safer roads and streets to prevent more than 600,000 deaths and millions of injuries each year, thus achieving the Decade of Action for Road Safety target of a 50 per cent reduction in deaths and injuries by 2030.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This High-Level Meeting marks the midpoint of the Decade of Action for Road Safety, a critical checkpoint to assess whether commitments are translating into results, and to accelerate meaningful action.<\/p>\n<p>Road safety stakeholders can support the letter campaign, an important initiative to secure commitments in the Safer Roads Pillar.<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">iRAP\u00a0Letter Campaign<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">iRAP\u00a0holds\u00a0UN ECOSOC Consultative Status\u00a0and letters\u00a0sent\u00a0to\u00a0leaders of\u00a0over 160 countries\u00a0via\u00a0their\u00a0UN Permanent Mission\u00a0outline\u00a0national progress and\u00a0the Business Case for Safer Roads in each country. _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">About the UN High-level Meeting on Road Safety<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Convened by the President of the UN General Assembly and the World Health Organization, the\u00a02026\u00a0High-level Meeting\u00a0theme is \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/80\/L.46\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Scaling up and accelerating implementation of commitments to halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The event will bring Heads of state and government, ministers, officials and experts together from governments, the UN, civil society, academia, the private sector and philanthropic foundations to advance progress in meeting the goal of halving road\u00a0deaths and injuries by 2030 that was agreed in the\u202fUN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030\u202fand the Sustainable Development Goals.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The two-day event, held at UN Headquarters in New York, will build on the\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/en\/A\/RES\/76\/294\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Political Declaration of the High-Level Meeting on Road Safety<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fadopted by the UN General Assembly in June 2022, and the\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/03\/event-summary-4th-global-ministerial-conference-on-road-safety\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Fourth Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fheld in Morocco in February 2025.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A concise and action-orientated\u00a0Declaration will be agreed in advance by intergovernmental negotiation\u00a0and published after the UN High-level Meeting.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> While not legally binding, it carries significant political weight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Preparatory\u00a0Interactive Multi-Stakeholder Hearing<\/b><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An\u202fInteractive Multi-Stakeholder Hearing on Improving Global Road Safety will be held as part of the preparatory process\u202fon 12 May at UN Headquarters in New York.
