Who should attend:\u00a0<\/b>This webinar is designed for road authorities, road designers, engineers,\u00a0consultants, and road safety practitioners involved in road design, operation, maintenance and policy.<\/p>\n

Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Road Infrastructure Safety Management directive<\/a> (2008\/96\/EC, also known as the RISM directive) defines procedures to ensure safety of the trans-European road infrastructure (TEN-T) and reduce fatalities and serious injuries.<\/p>\n

An amendment to the directive came into effect on December 16, 2019 and among other. Recommendations clearly stated in Article 5\u00a0the need for Member States to conduct \u201cthe first network-wide road safety assessment of Motorways and Primary roads by 2024<\/strong>, and regularly thereafter.\u201d As per this directive, assessing road safety using risk mapping and safety ranking of the network will \u201callow better identification of road sections where the opportunities to improve safety are the greatest and where targeted interventions should deliver the biggest improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n

This recommendation goes along with targets 3 and 4 of the UN Global Road Safety Performance Targets that adopted iRAPs international protocols within these Targets ensuring all new roads are built to a 3-star or better standard for all road users (Target 3), and more than 75% of travel is on the equivalent of 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 (Target 4). Hence, Road Assessment Programme (RAP) metrics have been recommended for use by the United Nations, the World Health Organisation, the FIA Foundation, and other leading institutions.<\/p>\n

For this lunchtime discussion, we have invited\u00a0Samar Abouraad<\/strong>, iRAP\u2019s Safer Journeys Specialist for Europe and\u00a0Assoc. Prof. Marko \u0160evrovi\u0107, Ph. D<\/strong>, Expert to the EU in the Experts Group for Road Infrastructure Safety (EGRIS) that is looking after the various aspects of implementing the RISM Directive.<\/p>\n

Both experts will present and discuss with participants the various aspects of the RISM Directive, how it has been implemented in the various European countries, and how iRAP methodology and tools related to it. The webinar will have interactive components where the participants will be able to share their knowledge and needs in relation to the application of the Directive.<\/p>\n

Guest Speaker- Samar Abouraad, iRAP\u2019s Safer Journeys Specialist for Europe<\/strong><\/p>\n

Samar Abouraad joined the iRAP team earlier this year as the \u2018Safer Journeys Specialist for Europe\u2019. Part of her mission is to look after the ongoing development of partnerships, programmes and projects which support the elimination of high-risk roads in the region.<\/p>\n

Samar is a civil engineer and senior road safety specialist. She is a Road Safety Certified Auditor with specialised knowledge in safe mobility and road safety policies, multisectoral partnerships, traffic law enforcement, capacity building, crash data analysis, roads and highways safe design, multi-modal urban mobility planning.<\/p>\n

She brings to the position almost 30 years\u2019 experience working on road safety in low-, middle- and high-income countries, including as a senior advisor at the Global Road Safety Partnership, senior expert to the World Bank and European Union, and in roles with AECOM and EGIS.<\/p>\n

Samar is proficient in English, French, and Arabic, and is based in Geneva.<\/p>\n

Guest Speaker- Marko Sevrovic, Senior Road Safety Expert, European Institute of Road Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assoc. Prof. Marko \u0160evrovi\u0107, Ph. D. is an experienced Project leader, licensed Road Safety Auditor, charted road transport engineer and is certified by International Road Assessment Programme for road survey, road attribute coding and analysis and reporting. He has 18 years of professional experience as a road safety and transport planning specialist (Road Safety Audits, iRAP methodology, EuroRAP\/iRAP projects, transport planning, road infrastructure design) and 13 years of experience as a Team leader in road infrastructure safety projects. He has been involved in numerous domestic road safety assessment projects of state roads and motorways in Croatia, as well as a large number of international road safety assessment projects, including iRAP Star Rating and Road Safety Audit of roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Qatar, Senegal, Lebanon, England, Ghana, Kenya and Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

Marko has 5 years of professional experience as certified road safety auditor, e.g.: Co-author of Croatian Road Safety Audit Manuals and Training Programme Syllabus, full time lecturer on national RSI\/RSA course and 16 years of teaching experience as well as an active involvement in scientific and professional activities. He is a Fellow of The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN, London, UK) and the Member of the Croatian chamber of traffic engineers \u2013 Charted engineer (since 2012).<\/p>\n
