If you missed the Launch<\/a> of the Global Plan for the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety<\/a> on Thursday 28 October it’s not too late to hear how safer road infrastructure will help to halve global road deaths and injuries by 2030.<\/p>\n The Plan was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Regional Commissions, in cooperation with partners in the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n It outlines the \u201cwhat to do, how to do it and who to do it\u201d to achieve the 12 Global Road Safety Performance Targets<\/a>, calling on governments and partners to implement the Safe Systems Approach in the creation and implementation of strategies and programmes for road safety, sustainable mobility and urban design.<\/p>\n Safe road infrastructure is a key focus of the Plan, alongside safe road use, safe vehicles, multimodal transport and land-use planning, and post-crash response.<\/p>\n target of preventing at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.<\/p>\n The Global Plan\u00a0aligns with the\u00a0Stockholm Declaration<\/a>, by\u00a0emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to road safety, and calling\u00a0on continued\u00a0improvements in\u00a0the design of roads and vehicles; enhancement of\u00a0laws and law enforcement; and provision of timely, life-saving emergency care for the injured.\u00a0The Global Plan also reflects the Stockholm Declaration\u2019s promotion of policies to promote walking, cycling and using public transport as
