AITD<\/a>–IndiaRAP <\/a>is helping to create child-friendly streets and improve non-motorised transport infrastructure in Coimbatore City, Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n Twenty-nine pedestrian hotspots and 295km of cycling routes across Coimbatore are being targeted for safe access to walking and cycling as part of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ<\/a>) GmbH project, in cooperation with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC<\/a>) and the GFA-WRI India-Wuppertal Institute consortium.<\/span><\/p>\n IndiaRAP is supporting the project by:<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Coimbatore-school1-768×241-1.png” title_text=”Coimbatore-school1-768×241″ _builder_version=”4.6.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.12.1″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n Access roads to CCMC schools are being assessed for safety of shool kids using SR4S tool<\/em><\/p>\n Coimbatore City is one of 3 Indian cities the \u201cIntegrated Sustainable Urban Transport Systems for Smart Cities Technical (SMART-SUT<\/a>)\u201d Project is targeting to address the safety and micro level\u00a0 accessibility issues faced by vulnerable users.<\/p>\n The project, due for completion in June 2021, aims to:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Project findings will support the City NMT network plan being prepared by the GFA-WRI India-Wuppertal Institute consortium with the support of national and international experts.<\/p>\n The project is part of the Government of India and Germany joint technical cooperation fostering a sustainable urban transport system.
