{"id":4007,"date":"2023-08-04T01:29:17","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T15:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/korap-visit-shares-ausrap-learnings\/"},"modified":"2023-08-04T01:29:17","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T15:29:17","slug":"korap-visit-shares-ausrap-learnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/korap-visit-shares-ausrap-learnings\/","title":{"rendered":"KoRAP visit shares AusRAP learnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>iRAP and AusRAP were delighted to welcome Korean partners to Australia this week to showcase learnings to aid the development of KoRAP.<\/p>\n<p>Nine delegates from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snu.ac.kr\/\">Seoul National University (SNU)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naeileng.co.kr\/\">Naeil Engineering and Consultants,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadkorea.co.kr\/\">Road Korea<\/a>, Mim Lab and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.krihs.re.kr\/eng\">Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements<\/a> joined the five day programme in Brisbane and Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>The Korean Government has endorsed the development of a road assessment programme for Korea (KoRAP) with national research and development funds and a national highway study over four years.<\/p>\n<p>The project will be led by Professor Sangjin Han from SNU and require an update to the road act to incorporate the iRAP Methodology.<\/p>\n<p>Sangjin is a member of iRAP\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/about-us\/structure-and-governance\/\">Comit\u00ea T\u00e9cnico Global<\/a> and previously worked for the Korea Transport Institute (<a href=\"https:\/\/english.koti.re.kr\/\">KOTI<\/a>), one of iRAP\u2019s 11 <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/about-us\/partnerships\/\">Centros de Excel\u00eancia<\/a> helping to shape the evidence-based global road infrastructure safety standard and tools.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian visit commenced in Brisbane with an <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/project\/ai-rap\/\">AiRAP<\/a> showcase provided by iRAP, Anditi and Retina Visions. The latest exciting developments in the \u2018accelerated and intelligent\u2019 capture of road safety-related data were shared as well as progress in world-leading AiRAP projects in the country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arrb.com.au\/\">ARRB NTRO<\/a> hosted a full-day workshop in Brisbane with presentations by iRAP, NTRO and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.racq.com.au\/about-us\/advocacy\/roads-and-infrastructure\/infrastructure-and-safety\/ausrap-and-road-safety\">RACQ<\/a> on the iRAP Methodology and tools, and their application in Queensland. Global resources to support the development of KoRAP were shared, as well as best practice case studies from other countries as models of success.<\/p>\n<p>The group enjoyed a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transurban.com\/\">Transurban\u2019s<\/a> Control Centre and tour of Brisbane infrastructure assets including the toll roads, tunnels and motorways of Legacy Way, the Clem 7, Airport Link and Gateway.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RACQ-KoRAP-pic.jpeg\" alt=\"RACQ KoRAP pic\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Sangjin-and-Greg.jpeg\" alt=\"Sangjin and Greg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Greco.jpeg\" alt=\"Greco\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Table-pres-1024.jpg\" alt=\"Table pres 1024\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RACQ-1024.jpg\" alt=\"RACQ 1024\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Transurban-4.jpeg\" alt=\"Transurban 4\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Table-Sangjin-1024.jpg\" alt=\"Table Sangjin 1024\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Peter.jpeg\" alt=\"Peter\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Transurban-3.jpeg\" alt=\"Transurban 3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Travelling on to Melbourne, the group visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/museumsvictoria.com.au\/melbournemuseum\/learning\/school-programs-and-resources\/road-to-zero-road-safety-experience\/\">Road to Zero Experience<\/a> at Melbourne Museum and enjoyed a full-day workshop with Victorian AusRAP partners including presentations by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tac.vic.gov.au\/\">Comiss\u00e3o de Acidentes de Transporte (TAC)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dtp.vic.gov.au\/\">Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) Victoria<\/a>, Transurban and ARRB NTRO Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>AusRAP developments and the Safer Roads Programme were shared, as well as the Victorian AiRAP technology and methodology pilot study, state and local roads assessments, and Victorian innovations and applications helping to maximise AusRAP benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The group enjoyed a visit to Transurban\u2019s Head Office to learn about their national Star Rating KPIs, Victorian network management and future plans.\u00a0Transurban has achieved <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/2022\/03\/transurban-achieves-4-star-demonstrating-international-leadership-in-urban-toll-road-safety\/\">iRAP Certification for a 4-star safety rating<\/a> on its network by vehicle kilometres travelled, exceeding the National Road Safety Target.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RtZ.png\" alt=\"RtZ\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Sam-Melb.jpeg\" alt=\"Sam Melb\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_1294-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1294\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RtZ3.jpeg\" alt=\"RtZ3\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Liz-Waller-Melb.png\" alt=\"Liz Waller Melb\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_1304-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1304\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RtZ2.jpeg\" alt=\"RtZ2\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/3de567be-4b2a-4ab6-ba5b-564168cf45f6.jpeg\" alt=\"3de567be-4b2a-4ab6-ba5b-564168cf45f6\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_1344-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1344\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to ARRB NTRO (Dave Milling, Emily McLean), RACQ (Greg Miszkowycz), Transurban (Liz Waller, David Beck, Andrew Eckersley), TAC (Sam Cockfield, John Matta), DTP (Matt Allan), Anditi (Peter Jamieson) and Retina Visions (Michael Cybulski) for their support of the Korean delegation visit.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Han extended his appreciation to iRAP and AusRAP partners for their warm welcome and the many learnings being taken home to inform Korea\u2019s iRAP study and development of KoRAP.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Passion is spreading fast among people. iRAP is working with passion, and it spreads its value of making roads free of fatalities fast worldwide. During this week we are moved by the passion of iRAP, particularly by Rob, Greg and Judy. Our delegation is saying that they now know what they need to do to make the Korean Road Assessment Programme better, and to contribute to the world free of high-risk roads,&#8221; Professor Han said.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP Chief Executive Officer Rob McInerney said, \u201cOur relationship with Professor Han and his involvement in the development of the iRAP model has extended over many years. We very much look forward to working with our Korean RAP family to support the launch of KoRAP. Since 2018, Korea\u2019s road traffic fatalities have halved. We look forward to also learning from their experience and innovation that can be incorporated into the global programme.
