Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognise outstanding achievement and innovation world-wide. Each year the most outstanding examples of international road safety initiatives are given public recognition through the scheme.<\/p>\n

SAFER ROADS FUND, UK
\n<\/strong>Safer Roads Award, 2021<\/strong>

A Funda\u00e7\u00e3o de Seguran\u00e7a no Tr\u00e2nsito<\/a> financially supported by the RAC Foundation and the Department for Transport developed and delivered significant infrastructure improvements through The Safe Roads Fund programme\u00a0 which initially focused on treating the 50 highest risk local A road sections* in England with remedial road safety engineering interventions.<\/p>\n

Together the Safer Roads Fund schemes are set to prevent around 1,450 fatal and serious injuries over the next 20 years.<\/p>\n

The value of prevention for the schemes is \u00a3550 million compared with the whole life cost of treatments of \u00a3125 million. The Benefit to Cost ratio for this portfolio of roads is estimated to be 4.4, meaning that for every \u00a31 invested, \u00a34.40 is returned in terms of societal benefit. This demonstrates how road safety interventions can compete favourably with other major transport projects.<\/p>\n

NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM, AUSTRALIA

The National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP<\/a>), delivered in partnership with the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) is an industry-led government funded program which assists organisations to reduce workplace road trauma among their workforces and the broader community.<\/p>\n

The program has developed over 400 evidence-based resources in collaboration with its diverse partnership base, which are made globally available at no expense through its website. A recent survey of its 275 partners found that 27% of those responding reported improvements in workplace road safety while 50% reported improved safety culture.<\/p>\n

The NRSPP was initially launched by HRH Prince Michael of Kent on 5 May 2014 in Melbourne as part of the Decade of Action Policy and Donor Forum.<\/p>\n

In his letter to the NRSPP\u2019s Independent Chair, Professor Barry Watson, HRH Prince Michael of Kent recalled the launch and noted his delight in being able to present the NRSPP with his award in recognition of its innovation and outstanding achievements in improving workplace road safety.<\/p>\n

The HRH Prince Michael of Kent noted the importance of the NRSPP in its efforts to ensure the safe use of vehicles by those who drive for work purposes and the sharing of good practice through creating partnerships across industry, government and the academic sectors.<\/p>\n
