{"id":2305,"date":"2020-11-23T00:36:26","date_gmt":"2020-11-22T13:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/26000km-of-sao-paulos-state-highways-to-be-assessed\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:37:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:37:58","slug":"26000km-of-sao-paulos-state-highways-to-be-assessed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/26000km-of-sao-paulos-state-highways-to-be-assessed\/","title":{"rendered":"26,000km of Sao Paulo\u2019s State Highways to be assessed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tenders have recently been called by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transportes.sp.gov.br\/\">Secretaria de Logistica e Transportes<\/a>, Government of S\u00e3o Paulo to assess the safety of 26,000km of State Highways as part of a programme funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction, Action and Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/who-we-are\/ibrd\">IBRD<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Supplier tenders have been called to survey and code geo-referenced data and images from the network according to the iRAP methodology. The project will reveal the level of risk built into the highways for different road user groups and provide a Safer Roads Investment Plan to guide maintenance and upgrade investment to improve safety.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo State is home to 35 per cent of Brazil\u2019s national fleet and has twice the number of drivers compared to the rest of the country.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019 alone, more than 5,400 people died on the State\u00b4s roads and streets in crashes, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saopaulo.sp.gov.br\/spnoticias\/numero-de-fatalidades-de-transito-em-2019-registra-menor-indice-desde-2015-em-sp\/\">official data<\/a> from the State Government. To reduce the number of road traffic deaths, the government established the programme <a href=\"http:\/\/www.respeitoavida.sp.gov.br\/\">Respeito \u00e0 Vida<\/a> with the mission of acting as an articulator for the promotion of actions oriented to reduce the number of road crashes in the State. The programme comprises 8 areas of the state administration and is also responsible for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infosiga.sp.gov.br\/\">Infosiga system<\/a>, which monitors and publishes crash statistics for the State.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ag\u00eancia de Transporte do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artesp.sp.gov.br\/\">ARTESP<\/a>), S\u00e3o Paulo has 9,800 km of concessioned roads, administered by 20 concessionaires on which, in 2019, more than R$6.6 billions Reais was invested in maintenance, generating more than 25,000 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Sao Paulo also has a <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/pt\/2020\/05\/sao-paulo-to-use-irap-methodology-on-the-largest-concession-contract-in-brazil\/\">1,273km concession assessment<\/a> underway to measure the safety of the network. The Governor of Sao Paulo, Mr. Jo\u00e3o Doria, signed the contract of works in May 2020 &#8211; the largest concession contract in Brazil and the first to incorporate the iRAP methodology.
